Ian Baker
is leaving New Mexico State as one of the best to ever play for the Aggies.

Accomplishments

2 WAC Regular Season Championships
3 WAC Tournament Championships
3 NCAA Tournament Appearances
1 NIT Tournament Appearance

Career Stats

1,411 career points (13th All-Time)
138 steals (6th All-Time)
378 assist (4th All-Time)

with the success and numbers he put up throughout his career (his missed 16 games of his freshman season) is why he was named the 2017 WAC Player of the Year.

Yet I rather have Dixon on my team. I rather have Chuha or Jones from NMSU. And I would let you have both those if I could get Neilson. Player of Year is popularity contest in most leagues. Ie Martez Harrison and Ian Baker.

Last 3 Players of year should have been Siakam Siakam Dixon/Chuha. Next years player of year should be be Neilson or Dixon or Chuha or Braun. Not one of those four I'd be shocked.

I believe Eli Chuha is going to have a monster junior year. I see him averaging 17/10 for the season.

RE: Ian Baker
Damiyne Durham will finally be a starter and the main scoring threat. I think he is going to average 20 ppg along with probably about 5 rebounds because of his nice length. He should be in the discussion at least.

I think Shon Brigs will be your best player, but a much more even roadrunner team from top to bottom in terms of talent compared to rest of WAC.

Briggs is really good. He really stepped up at the end of the year and was dominant in the NIT. A perfect replacement for Jaylin Airington. I really like him but pure talent wise Durham is the guy.

I would like to see Durham show more of his mid-range game this season and not jack up so many long range threes. The player I expect to step it up offensively is Brent Wrapp. He is a big guard with a good handle.

My projected line up for CSUB...

PG: Brent Wrapp... 6'3... JR; Rickey Holden... 5'10... JR
SG: Damiyne Durham... 6'4... JR; Jarkel Joiner... 6'1... FR
SF: Taze Moore... 6'5... SO; Greg Lee... 6'8... FR
PF: Shon Briggs... 6'6... SR; James Suber... 6'7... SR
C: Moatz Aly... 6'10... SR; Fallou Ndoye... 6'11... SR

And when Barnes wants to amp up the perimeter shooting and full court pressure, I could see Barnes pull Moore out of the line up and send in Holden or Joiner to play the two guard with Durham sliding over to the 3-spot.

Wrapp guarding Harris is a matchup I can't wait to see. With Durham I trust him to take whatever, when a guy can hit 8 threes in a game you give him a green light. I remember hearing somewhere Barnes said Wrapp is going to have to step up offensively so that will be interesting.

Pretty close to my lineup although Darrin Person will probably be in the mix to even be the starting SF depending how fast his recovery is, he definitely has the talent. Justin Davis will be in the mix as well for big minutes, 3 star who redshirted last year and had an impressive San Diego high school career. Justin McCall is also a nice 6'5'' SG to mix in, Barnes likes those big guards. He played for a very good Ridgeview team. I don't know much about Greg Lee but he is massive for a 2 or 3. Sounds like a perfect fit for Barnes.

From the video I have seen of Lee, he has average at best hops for 6'8. But he is long and has a pretty three point shot. He also has a pretty good handle for a big guy. He is a nature three or point forward "if" he can defend on the perimeter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi2fTnLG5Ss

Keep in mind, this video was in 2014. Lee might be stronger and more athletic now.

Aly is soft upstairs though. When he fouled out at GCU this year, he was yelling all sorts of explitives as us in section 100. They had to move him to the other end of the bench because of it.

Come on, there is only so much that can be said about Baker.

This is just another thread to chest thump about our teams.

This season it is a 4 team race for the WAC Championship... Utah Valley... Grand Canyon... New Mexico State... Cal State Bakersfield.... with Seattle closing the gap.

He will be but Bakersfield will need to finish in the top 3 for him to have any chance.

So will NMSU for Chuha or Ndir for that matter. No penciling in anybody this year.

If NMSU doesn't finish 1st or 2nd, no one from NMSU will win the award.

RE: Ian Baker
Going through each team's roster, I think Utah Valley is going to crash the party. They return most of their roster and add some D1 transfers who appear to be able to fill some of last season's deficiencies. The only thing I still question is their coaching compared to GCU, CSUB, and NMSU (even with our new coach).
