Things getting real in Korea
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/05/world...-icbm.html

SEOUL, South Korea — The top American general in South Korea said Wednesday that self-restraint was all that kept the United States and South Korea from going to war with North Korea, as the South’s defense minister indicated that the North’s first intercontinental ballistic missile had the potential to reach Hawaii.
The unusually blunt warning, from Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, the commander of American troops based in Seoul, came a day after North Korea said it successfully tested the Hwasong-14, its first intercontinental ballistic missile....

South Korea released a computer-animated video showing missile strikes at the heart of Pyongyang, the North Korean capital. The video featured an American B1-B bomber and German-made Taurus air-to-land cruise missiles.
The Taurus, which is meant to destroy targets underground, is often cited as a critical weapon South Korea would use in an operation to “decapitate” the North’s government.
The video showed flags and government buildings in Pyongyang in flames....

Rhetoric seems to be reaching dangerous levels. Long term, the ICBM is making it more and more likely that we need to strike first. That's very bad for South Korea.

This is a problem I feel strongly that there is only a political/diplomatic solution. That means it is up to China.

I get China wanting a buffer on their border rather than a US ally but I think North Korea is coming full circle into counterproductive territory--even for their interests.

Let's just detonate an EMP device over Pyongyang and tomahawk the **** out of NK's artillery pointed at Soul and get this over with.

Last week I heard John Bolton say that the ONLY possible peaceful solution was for the South to reunify with the North after fat boy abdicates or is removed by internal forces.

That would be accomplished but only after Lil Fat Boy is dead and his regime crushed but not before. That's what Lil Kim wants. He's betting that SK and the US will capitulate with them getting SK for free, i.e., another Czeckoslavakia before WWII. What did that get the world? Nothing but a full WWII as it didn't/wouldn't appease Hitler. The same thing would happen in Korea.

The best time to do a pre-emptive strike would be when Li'l Kim and his military generals are all assembled before their parades. You'll be targeting very important figures. Sure, you'll get a lot of backlash and criticism but not from the Demoncrats because they're in favor of stronger measures against NK. Schiff just came out calling for a stronger response. I just hope they keep the video because they're going to be saying that they didn't say such a thing.

That's the only good solution. But will it take too long to get them to where they will (and can) do what is necessary?

Why China believes having a democracy next to them is worse than belligerent gout-ridden hoho eating pajama boy with nukes is beyond me.

P.S. Why do you think Russia is so nonchalant about Iran getting the bomb? They want the crazy Muslims to do their dirty work. Wouldn't you want someone to do the dirty work for you?

Just like Stalin waited on the fringes of the Polish capital while the Poles were fighting for their lives against Hitlers forces. He waited until most of the fighting was over then went in to gather the spoils. He did save a lot of Russian lives by doing that and you don't think Putin in Pie would do the same thing? Remember, it's what they learned in school.

Russia is most at risk from Iran. They only have to deliver it next door.

Read last part of post no.8.

Iran won't fight the Russians. They hate us more. Now, Chechnya that's another matter.

Saying the Soviets saved lives in WWII is a tough argument.

I was referring to Stalin keeping his troops out of Warsaw and letting the Poles do the major fighting against the Nazis. I wasn't referring to the overall war, just the battle for Warsaw which occurred almost at the end of the war.

The thing I feel most convinced of regarding this situation is that we should not do anything that John Bolton suggests.

Why anyone still thinks that royal ass clown is qualified to provide advice on any foreign policy decisions is beyond me.

He's been out of government since 2006. Only reason he still pops up is Fox News puts a mic under his nose every so often.

Thank God! But didn't trump (or trump folks) put his name out there for consideration in the administration?

Trump didn't. Some folks in the media did. Its how it goes anymore.
