RE: Watching the 2010 Sugar Bowl on FS Central
Just remember...
1) UC was without their HC and 3/4 of their coaching staff.
2) This was both Tebow's and Urban Meyer's last game as Gators (since Tebow was a Senior and Meyer had announced his "retirement").
3) The Gators were loaded with some insane talent (Maurice Pouncey among them) and had been favored to play for the BCSCG until they lost to Georgia and then LSU (or was it Auburn) in the SECCG.
4) I honestly think they would have scored all those same points against pretty much everyone else...UC actually closed the gap from a "rout" to a "whuppin'" by the end.

We were way out-classed in that game. We would have lost even if Brian Kelly had stayed...and I think he knew it and got while the getting was good.

FWIW, Florida didn't lose to Georgia, Auburn or LSU in 2009. They didn't play Auburn, and beat Georgia and LSU decisively. Their only loss was to Alabama in the SECCG.

That Sugar Bowl was too bad, because the 2009 Cincy team was for real. It was a very good football team, probably the best Big East team of the last 10 years of the league. It was just very tough luck running in to a team with way more talent and the second best coach of the past 40 years and something to play for.

That was a beautiful game. We were not #12, we were #5. Went into the game with a chip on our shoulder.

Fair enough... It was a long time back and I really couldn't care much less about Florida except UC played them and that they lost the SECCG in order to play us instead of the BCSCG...

Awful game. People laughed at the big east for even having a team there. Never close. 44-10 in the 3rd quarter. Arguably the worst Sugar Bowl in history

And Memphis played in a BCS bowl game...when? Wasn't that the year Memphis went 2-10 and finished last in Conference USA East Division behind S Miss, UAB and Marshall

I knew that, which is why i said "FWIW". Wasn't trying to be pedant, really just emphasizing your point about the quality of who Cincy played in the Sugar Bowl.

We got royally screwed by Brian Kelly. I think Florida wins that game no matter what, but it would have been a lot closer if we had a coaching staff and a motivated team. The skeleton crew of coaches left behind were unable to prepare our guys for the game, and once the staff quit on the players, the players kind of gave up. Rumor was that half the team was out partying hard the night before the game. I do believe Florida was the 2nd-best team in the country that year. They just had the misfortune of running into arguably Nick Saban's best Alabama team in the SEC championship game.

And say what you want about Cincinnati or the Big East, but Cincinnati had every right to be in that game. They beat 4 ranked teams and finished the regular season undefeated.

I can 100% confirm that I saw at least 4 players, 2 of whom were starters, out on Bourbon Street the night beforehand. Those players got put through the wringer by Kelly, and wanted nothing to do with the rest of that season afterward. I was astonished they even put up 24, after Meyer said he would be taking a leave of absence at the end of the season I legitimately thought about putting quite a bit of money on Florida. There was absolutely no way they were losing that game, and it would not be close. People forget just how talented that Florida team was...they had 7 NFL STARTERS who started on their defense and 6 NFL STARTERS who started on their offense. Sending 13 to the NFL from your team is pretty astonishing, having there be 13 NFL STARTERS on the field at once in college is absolutely ridiculous.

I've heard Tony Pike say the team practiced together only a handful of time and didn't start practicing until two weeks before the game.

Sure you would have gone undefeated and beat the likes of WVU, Oregon state, and Pitt. All three were ranked at the time we beat them. Ho hum.

Moreover, Tebow was unbelievably hot. He was like 31 of 33.

Cincinnati fans it was seven years ago it'll be ok. Cincinnati deserved to be that game that just got a bad draw with the lose of the coaching staff and having to play probably the second best team in the country.
