Exclamation Current Status on David Washington
HM wrote up a great article on the current status of David Washington. Summary is he currently isn't getting calls from either NFL or CFL teams but is continuing working out in the hopes he may get a call next year. Also interested in possibly coaching and hoping to land a GA job for a FBS school.

Thanks for sharing! A very, very nice article by Harry.

Now on to David's status. Here's wishing that he gets the opportunity. He deserves it and when life's opportunity comes, he'll make the best of it whatever it is!

Great article on DW. For a guy who gave more than anyone could ask to ODU football, best wishes and God Speed. Whatever path you take, I am sure you will be successful.

As great as he was at QB for us I wonder how things would have panned out if he didn't switch back to that position and stayed at WR

We probably dont make a bowl game last year. And Pascal probably receives fewer NFL looks due to having a much less productive season. It would have been real bad for the team. We're lucky to have had a guy like DW who was willing to put the team above himself. That's a rare trait and I know he will do well in life because of it and his leadership ability.

My post was more about a perfect situation for him haha. This would also mean that Shuler rose to the occasion and won games for us and he would still be our starting QB. You're right about Pascal though, I didn't even think about that.

He sacrificed his NFL chances to help the team. It isnt common for guys to be willing to do this. I know everyone like playing QB, but he had to know his chances were far better at WR than QB.

I believe you're correct. During the TH era, I remember NFL scouts asking about DW when he was at the WR post. Had he stuck with it, he may have been another UFDA WR right now but I think with his tenacity, something will pull through for him. I'm rooting for him and hope to hear great news in the near future.

By the way, I'm not sure who at the Pilot picked the sensationalized title to this article but it can't be good for recruiting. I know, I know, whatever it takes to get clicks.

To be honest the article is a bit too glib in brushing over the fact that Washington has had major knee surgery. That has to make a difference to at least one team.

DW went above and beyond for the team and I will always respect him for that. Wherever life takes him, I am sure that he will find success and fulfillment.

I agree, the title is a bit.... something.

Best Player on ODU's best team?

As QB he is the most important player due to the touches the QB gets.... but is he better than Pascal... or Coward.... or Ray Lawry????

I have had an opportunity to PM D.Washington on Twitter and can say that as good as he is as a football player, he is a better man.

It isn't the Pilot's responsibility to look at every headline they write and ponder how it might impact ODU recruiting, not to mention HM was writing his opinion on the subject, so whether DW really was better than Lawry or Zach doesn't matter.

Of course not. But that doesnt make the title any less sensationalized or clickbaity.

I think the headline was a little off, but the point of the article was more that he was the most valuable player on the team thanks to not only his football skills, but his leadership skills. I find it hard to argue with that.

Yes, the Pilot wants people to read its stories and be drawn to them by enticing headlines. . . . And the original gripe was that such a headline wouldn't help recruiting.

That was my gripe. I even noted in the original post that I understand the need for clicks.

But it doesnt make me feel any better about the decision to go with that title. They can push for clicks without making it look like good players at ODU won't get a fair shot at the pros.

Not going to beat this into the ground, but the fact that we have TH in Minny, Zach in DC, DeMarco in CFL (for a time) and Coward somewhere -- all of whom the coaches have alerted every kid they recruit to -- more than overrides one headline in the Pilot, a paper BTW which does a real good job covering the university's sports, considering we're not exactly Notre Dame.

But you're entitled to your feelings.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I doubt we lose out on a recruit based on an article in the Virginia Pilot talking about a former FCS recruits post college ventures.
