My son-in-law was BOBBY DUNCUM, JR. who played football for THE TEXAS LONGHORNS and afterwards, entered professional wrestling like his father. He started wresting in Japan and eventually came back to the US with the WCW. The deal is, you have a contract to wrestle and if you don't....you don't get paid. So what happens is that you wrestle when you are hurt and start becoming dependent on pain pills to enable you to perform. So, each time you visit a different city....you see a different doctor and get pills.....pretty soon you become addicted. Bobby died in his early 30's and it was due to wrestling and pain pills. I hope DeAngelo doesn't get into this rat race. Here is a video of Bobby wrestling.

Major promotions have guaranteed contracts now. And judging by the time of the video you posted Bobby had to have had some type of guarantee also.
Some type of guarantee ... we'll guarantee to buy you a plane ticket home ... oops, sorry, make that a bus ticket. We'll guarantee you a six month contract, if you get hurt in month 5, well, too bad, good luck with that compression fracture in your back. We'll guarantee that if you don't wrestle tonight (or any night), you won't be re-upped when your contract is up next month.
Actually WWE has had multiple wrestlers recently for an extended period of time with neck issues that have all been paid their guarantee. How is this any different from the terrible NFL contracts?
I was talking about Duncum specifically.
I'm sure things have improved in the WWE, but I'm also sure it's not all sunshine and roses. You don't think there still aren't steroids lurking about? Painkillers galore? Pressure to wrestle hurt?
In answer to your question though, the major difference is that NFL players collectively bargain for their pay and benefits and share in the profits of the league. No such animal in WWE, who basically has a monopoly on the business in the US.
Judging from your comments, you sound like you know a lot about professional wrestling.

Sad but true. Not so much these days though.
