OT: Nike, Adidas or Under Armour? Who wears what in FBS – 2017 edition
Can't wait to get to the WKU Store to buy some new Nike swag.

Quote:There was once a time when Reebok was a giant of the college apparel industry. That brand is now extinct, and another one is on its way to joining them.

Now in its fourth year, FootballScoop’s Who Wears What study is an exercise that tracks changes in the college apparel industry, changes that often seem microscopic on a year-to-year basis but, over the course of time, will monitor the shifting sands of the industry.

For instance, last year’s news highlighted the Under Armour’s passing of Adidas. Evidence of that? We wrote that Adidas was “stuck with” James Harden. Now? That arrangement seems quite different.

In 2017, we have seen the near complete removal of Russell Athletic from the landscape. The Bowling Green, Ky.,-based brand was already hanging on by a thread in FBS, and that thread has been cut down to a single piece of twine. Ohio jumped ship. Georgia Tech announced plans to do at its next available opportunity. Even hometown team Western Kentucky left the brand, soon leaving Southern Miss as Russell’s only brand ambassador in FBS. And with that, it figures the Golden Eagles will soon jump ship as well.

Elsewhere, Nike remains the king of the major college football landscape. Adidas and Under Armour have carved out their respective territories, but it remains Nike’s countryside. The Swoosh owns 67.7 percent of the Power 5 contracts, claims primacy in every Power 5 league — 18 of the 24 available schools in the SEC and Big 12 wear Nike — and outfits 14 of the last 15 national champions, including all 12 teams to ever reach the College Football Playoff.

Conference USA
Charlotte – Nike
Florida Atlantic – Adidas
Florida International – Adidas
Louisiana Tech – Adidas
Marshall – Nike
Middle Tennessee – Nike
North Texas – Nike
Old Dominion – Under Armour
Rice – Adidas
Southern Miss – Russell Athletic
UAB – Under Armour
UTEP – Nike
UTSA – Adidas
Western Kentucky – Nike
BREAKDOWN: Nike 6 (42.9%), Adidas 5 (35.7%), Under Armour 2 (14.3%), Russell Athletic 1 (7.1%)

Wear faded red (pink) jerseys from the dollar store, I don't care.

RE: OT: Nike, Adidas or Under Armour? Who wears what in FBS – 2017 edition
It has been discussed already but this is the last season USM will be in Russell uniforms for football and men's basketball as our contract expires at the end of the 2017-2018 athletic season. The guess is we will go Nike or Under Armour but the interesting part will be either baseball or women's basketball. When USM went with Russell in 2013 it was with the premise it would be all sports but baseball (UA) and w. basketball (Nike) for whatever reason never made the switch. The new A.D. has made it clear that he wants one brand across the board so when the new brand is announced approximately between Thanksgiving and Christmas one of those 2 sports will lose their individual deal.

Not sure Nike will be involved. Hearing adidas and UA are favorites. I'm leaning towards adidas.

RE: OT: Nike, Adidas or Under Armour? Who wears what in FBS – 2017 edition
Nike would low ball.

ECU started with Adidas over the 2016-17 season as far as being fully covered by them. Deal was signed one year prior. I'll give Adidas credit on the marketing, promotion, and local retailer ( i.e. Student Stores--on campus bookstore and UBE--off campus other major book store) store stocking quantities.

I've heard no negative feedback on the gear they have provided for our teams in terms of fit, trim, size, and durability. My LONE beef with their first year offerings was them completely dropping the ball on our black football jersey.

Of the Adidas branded apparel I bought with ECU on it this year I did like our Purple Stitch jersey. I found their tshirts to be pretty good quality. I really wanted to get one of their polos but never found one at the right price for me. I also got one of their basic hoodies and thought it was pretty nice. I have not overly felt their hat designs at least in year 1.

I personally like Nike for UTEP it's my favorite athletic brand. I have a couple of UTEP Nike polos and shirts that match very well with my shoes. I don't own any other brand of athletic shoes but Nike. If UTEP ever switched to another brand I would be sad.

If you have a simple look, I think Adidas would be fine. No worries, I have a feeling little brother will be following big brother UAB to under armor. 05-stirthepot

Nah UTEP can have it since they're practically out west anyway.

How is adidas like the dollar rack? They're one of the most popular brands in the world.

I would much rather have UA, but based on things I've heard I think adidas might be the favorite.

It is just my opinion. When you go to Dick's you see UA shirts for $25 and Nike shirts for $25 then in the clearance a bunch of $17.99 adidas shirts. I know they are huge in soccer which is why I probably don't notice as much.

When the russell deal was signed women's hoops had a year left on their current nike contract. By the time that year was up McGillis was in the ad's chair. JLM did not want to leave Nike. Nike has been good to that sport providing extra things, especially tons of giveaway stuff for her end of year golf tourney. McG said he understood and told her she did not have to switch. Baseball then followed suit.

Nike has been good to that sport providing extra things, especially tons of giveaway stuff for her end of year golf tourney. McG said he understood and told her she did not have to switch. Baseball then followed suit.

Thanks for the info. I "assumed" that it had to do with something along those lines. I remember hearing many many many years ago when football went Nike (2001 or so) that Corky balked (no baseball pun intended) at baseball going to Nike as the baseball contract with Russell was much better financially at the time than Nike even remotely offered.

RE: OT: Nike, Adidas or Under Armour? Who wears what in FBS – 2017 edition
Nike is probably the best shoe on the market, but I'll always wear Adidas for no other reason than it being one of the two German brands (the other being Puma). Never liked Puma though.

I've really soured on Nike shoes. I can never keep a pair from falling apart. I've gotten some adidas lately from work and they are way better than any nikes I've had.
