Lennie Waite
Last week, at the European Team Championships, Lennie Waite, representing Great Britain, finished 2nd in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a nice time of 9:43.33.

Unfortunately, earlier today, she was a disappointing 4th at the British Team Championships (to pick the team for the World Championships). Her time was 10:13.81. I don't yet know the reason for the performance.

On Tuesday, July 4, at the USATF 10K Championships in Atlanta, Becky Wade finished 6th in a time of 33:44.20. This was a road race, part of the annual Peachtree 10K. The field was world class, so an 6th place finish is outstanding.

Also, Becky recently became engaged to former Owl distance runner Will Firth.

The USATF Twitter shows Becky at 6th - even better!

I corrected my original post (it was a typo, twice). I'm trying to get more information on Lauren LaRocco, who doesn't appear in the original results.

FWIW, she retweeted the USATF results webpage that has her 6th: https://twitter.com/lauren_larocco?lang=en

RE: Lennie Waite
I haven't talked with Becky as of yet, but this is what I've pieced together:

1. I saw Becky's finish line photo, and there is no runner immediately in front of her, but right behind her is a runner wearing Bib W151;
2. I went to the USATF website to get the list of the INVITED runners for the women's race, and the name of Lauren LaRocco does not appear - so she was in the elite field, but not "invited." She was assigned Bib W151;
3. LaRocco runs for the University of Portland, and is legit - she's run 32:47.30 for 10K on the track.

So, the results should be that Becky was 6th.

Here is the website .

The website I'm seeing now has Becky 6th, with LaRocco 1 second behind in 7th.

Congrats.

Today, Lennie finished 2nd in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a meet in Letterkenny, Ireland. Her time was about 9:43.9 - I estimated that from the YouTube video. I'll link to that video when I get a chance, unless someone beats me to it.

RE: Lennie Waite
Earlier today (July 11), in Goteborg, Sweden, Lennie Waite ran a season best of 9:37.94 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (she finished 3rd in a fast race). That time puts her well under the World Championships qualifying time of 9:42.00 (last year, she had a lifetime best of 9:35.91).

Unfortunately, Lennie was NOT named to the British team that will compete in London (that roster was announced today). Although nations can have up to 3 individuals in every event (assuming they've hit the time/mark), the British named only Rosie Clarke, who ran 9:36.75 last month.

Goteborg results.

It appears that the British team has not been finalized. That time should get Lennie to Worlds. Stay tuned.

RE: Lennie Waite
Tomorrow, August 9, Lennie will be competing in the heats of the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the IAAF World Championships. She is in Heat 1 (of 3), scheduled for 1:05 p.m., CDT. Coverage is on NBC Sports Cable.

I think it'll take around 9:22 or so to advance, a time well under her lifetime best. There are 3 heats, with the top 3 in each advancing to the finals automatically, and the next 6 fastest times from all of the heats.

Lennie hung with the lead pack until the last two laps ... but then was left behind, finishing 10th (9:54.97).

The winner (Gesa Felicitas Krause of Germany) ran 9:39.86.

American Colleen Quigley finished third in the heat, but was DQ'd for stepping on the inside lane-boundary line after a water jump.

The NBC commentator said the pouring rain conditions were "miserable."

Or more appropriately, they were British :)

RE: Lennie Waite
In the combined results, Lennie finished 30th of 40 (not counting one "Did Not Start" and Quigley's DQ).

Her first heat was by far the slowest. The runners who finishest 7th in each of the 2nd and 3rd heats beat the time of the 1st heat winner, but did not qualify for the finals, which will have the top three winners of each heat and those runners with the next six fastest times.

One American runner from Portland, Ore., said she was not phased by the conditions. :-)
