Loyola Illinois starts the top 100 countdown as the MVC champion(15 seed).

Got 9 more non NIT/NCAA teams before we start to see NIT teams showing up.

First four out
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Big man Ben Lammers (14.2 ppg, 51.6 FG pct) has a shot at the NBA and leads a squad that finished 21-16 last season.
Central Florida Knights
Seven-foot-6 Tacko Fall (10.9 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.6 bpg, 71.5 FG pct) and B.J. Taylor (17.4 ppg) lead the way for the Knights, coming off an NIT semifinals run in Johnny Dawkins' first year in Orlando.
Dayton Flyers
The Flyers have made four straight NCAA tourneys, but lost four key seniors. More important, they lost Archie Miller, who took the Indiana job. Anthony Grant, who went 117-85 in six seasons at Alabama, will have his hands full.
Arizona State Sun Devils
Guards Shannon Evans and Tra Holder will be the backbone for the Sun Devils in Bobby Hurley's third season at the helm in Tempe.

RE: College Basketball preview
Furman is the 1st 14 seed on the board. Still 8 teams left who won't make NCAA/NIT on countdown before we start to get into those teams- Earliest possible would be August 13.

Best part of this- 14 weeks from today the season starts!!!!!

RE: College Basketball preview
so was doing a bit of calculating....

there's 73 teams left from the conferences we've seen so far....

There are 5 conferences not shown as of yet....
Atlantic Sun
Big 12
Big East
Horizon
Patriot

those 5 conferences have 22 teams. Assuming like 8-9 from both Big East and Big 12, and then 3-4 from the other 3. Should know pretty soon you would think....

RE: College Basketball preview
Kansas St finally gives the Big 12 a rep- #89.

with that- 2 teams left before the NIT teams start showing up....
The Atlantic Sun, Big East, Horizon, and Patriot now have 12 teams in the countdown. So assuming the Atlantic Sun, Horizon, and Patriot have 1 each, that would leave the Big East with 9.

RE: College Basketball preview
Northern Kentucky shows up at #88. 1st Horizon team on the countdown. 2nd in the Horizon....

So Atlantic Sun, Big East and Horizon have 10 teams in the countdown. So looking like Big East has 8 teams.

tomorrow assuming not a conference champion will be the last team not in the NCAA/NIT.

RE: College Basketball preview
And St John's shows up at #87. 1st Big East team on the countdown, 8th in Big East.....

So right now we have 14 conference champions in the tourney. Have 54 NCAA teams and 32 NIT teams to go, so tomorrow we'll start to get the NIT filled out.....

South Carolina 1st team in the NIT in the projection. One thing to remember though- a team in South Carolina's position in the poll end of the year would never make the NIT, as the bottom 6-7 NIT teams are always conference champs from lower conferences that get an auto bid.

I find that phrasing curious. It almost sounds as if it were a bad thing that no Big 12 teams were on the list before K-State. If your worst team is ranked #89, that's a very good thing, isn't it?

Man, people are really sleeping on South Carolina this year.

Ohio St checks in at #75. Got 17 champions in so 51 NCAA tourney teams to go along with 23 other NIT teams.

Right now in reality, the 9 teams they have projected for the NIT would not be in the NIT- as those teams would be bumped for the automatic teams from the smaller conferences that have to be in the NIT due to the rules that regular season conference champs have to go to the NIT if they don't win the conference tourney.

what if those regular season champs do win the conference tourney? then the 9 mentioned would get in to the NIT

yes. But realistically that's never happened...
2017- 8 auto teams that wouldn't have made NIT without that auto bid
2016- 10
2015- 10
2014- 9
2013- 8
2012- 5
2011- 11
so in the 7 years with the 68 team NCAA format, there's been 8.71 teams per year who made the NIT via auto bid(who wouldn't have made it otherwise).

Houston shows up at #74 and the 10th NIT team this year. (I was off, BYU was 9th NIT team).

So 22 more NIT teams and then 51 NCAA teams.

St Joe's is in at #72. They are the 11th NIT team in the countdown. So about 3 weeks until we get the NCAA tourney teams showing up..... Of course I always say you take the last 8 left out and the 1st 8 in- and realistically they're about the same. 1-2 bounces goes either way will seal their fate.
