USMNT vs Ghana this afternoon
Last tune up before the Gold Cup begins next Saturday.

There's a little history with Ghana so I expect to see a spirited match.

I like soccer, but I'm sure plenty here don't.

NTR - there's a soccer subforum there.

watch them actually come out and win a useless game. Then turn around and for third straight WC get knocked out by Ghana.

Not true.

USMNT defeated Ghana and advanced out of the group stage in 2014, with Germany. Portugal and Ghana did not.

Ignorant and ill-informed.

Nice 2-1 win. We'll see how that translates to the Gold Cup.

As an aside, I think Ghana is in danger of NOT qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. It would be really nice not to have them in our group, again.

Correction they have gone 1-2 against Ghana in the past 3 WC.

It is a friendly which mean it has no effect on any of the up coming CONCACAF Gold Cup or WC qualifying. But the team is playing a number of younger players who most likely would not get a roster position for Gold Cup or WC.

I think it was a good win. Especially from our B-team.

Not going to hold my breath for the Gold Cup. I think the focus is squarely on getting the best roster in place to qualify for the WC. We are in pretty good shape for that, as of right now.

Eh.

They only have one point in two matches in their final group round. Not good, but they can turn around and go through if they win v. Egypt and at Uganda. They've yet to play Congo, the group's minnow, whereas the other two have already beaten them handily. We'll see.
