They will be playing in USL D3 that starts play in 2019. They will essentially be the second level of the USL. So in baseball terms they will be AA ball, with USL being AAA to the MLS.

It'll be a dark day in Statesboro when a Georgia Southern football teams only had 5,000 people in attendance

Soccer in Trump country. That would be like putting a NASCAR track on Bankhead. Good luck with that

The black and white folks don't care quite as much about soccer, but the brown folks in Trump country sure do.

Soccer is a niche sport and Tormenta does a pretty good job of filling that niche for the Savannah/South Georgia area. You'd be surprised at how big soccer has gotten in all corners of the US. Atlanta United is in Trump country yet has the top attendance in the MLS in its first season.

Ok, Torments will be USL 3, tied to the Charleston Battery USL Pro, which is tied to Atl Utd in MLS. The USL has multiple levels, pro level is the top.

This is a big move for this team, GS soccer, and the city. Hoping it is successful.

"Soccer is a niche sport" haha only in America. I'm still unsure what's going to happen when people get fed up with CTE.

Still in the planning stage but the renderings do little to present the entire complex. The field house will be shared with one side dedicated to GS the other Tormenta. The bottom of the home side will be somewhat similar in design to a strip mall with retail space for restaurants and gift ships or whatever with road frontage. parking will be closer to the bypass so the stadium will literally butt up against the southern campus edge with the new south campus adjacent with connecting roads yet to be constructed.

Hope this gets past the planning stages for you guys. Shouldn't be that expensive to build either.

Little known fact soccer is huge in the Trump suburbs of the ATL area. I have no idea why folks pigeon hole soccer fans politically. My daughters play soccer so did my cousin and nephews and none of my family would vote for a democrat with a gun to our heads ..(which might happen if Hitlerly won) I kid I kid....sorta.

RE: 5,000 Seat Soccer Stadium Coming to Statesboro/GS
Figured I'd dig up a month old thread for this. Birmingham was just awarded a USL team to begin play in 2019, preceded by a PDL team in 2018. No mention of ewhere the team would play, not sure if the city would want them in whatever they finally decide to do with UAB football. Right now UAB plays at Legion Field, and it has hosted a number of international soccer matches, but 60k seats will be a bit much for USL....

A current team in town that plays in the NPSL(fourth tier) plays games at Samford's soccer field.

Be interesting to see what they build for this new team, I like what Statesboro has planned.

On a personal note, it sucks that I no longer live in Mobile and get to experience everything happening there, and I live nearly an hour outside Birmingham, so I don't get the real experience of that either. I love my small town life, but miss the city amenities.

Just heard today they're building a new soccer facility at the Circuit of the Americas outside Austin for a new USL team out there.

The Cajun Track/Soccer complex that was recently redone has a seating capacity of 5000.

Pro soccer is very fluid right now. AFC Mobile as been approached about possibly joining USL D3 beginning play in 2019. AFC Mobile is currently is the GCPL which is tier 5, the USL D3 would be tier 4, I think. AFC Mobile currently plays in a 5,000 seat stadium, but it is field turf, and I'd rather see soccer played on actual grass.

AFC Mobile had games this past season with over 1,000 people, and set league records all season long for the GCPL.

Where i live now (Raleigh) we have NCFC, maybe a 8k seater? In the NASL (tier 2), one of the more likely candidates for next MLS expansion, are the Mobile team and others like it hoping to eventually see a relegation system? Or are they comfortable with rising on occasional expansions in the normal us franchise system?

I personally would like to see relegation, evenn if just in the USL system. MLS will never go for it, but no reason why it can't happen within the USL, tier 2-4.
