RE: NCAA examining permenant 14 week schedule
I don't think, in this case, this is about media rights, but it should have a moderately healthy influence on them. There's enough games on each week that you can take a few away and spread them to another week without too negatively impacting the other weeks.

Beyond that, it's not like this will be a first. Some years we already get 14 weeks. It may well be the case that the networks prefer that set-up to the years when you only get 13. Worst case scenario, I think this is probably net neutral which means it's still a good change for non-media rights aspects.

And the reason it's hemmed in like that, in the first place (with only 13 weeks), is because the "old rules" were that the season started Labor Day weekend. Some years there are 14 weeks between Labor Day weekend and the last weekend of Nov. But most years there are only 13 weeks.

However, TV ratings prove that people are open to consuming football before Labor Day weekend. Two bye weeks for every team is a great thing, which doesn't cost anyone anything, and gives the networks more slots to sell advertising. They slightly spread out the games from 13 to 14 weeks, but not a big deal at all. Plenty of good content to go around.
