RE: CAA Schedule Hurts Basketball Recruiting
So we basically know that our 2 options to move up were the Sun Belt or CUSA.

Conference RPI in 2016-17:
CAA: #9 (W); #11 (M)
CUSA: #14 (W); #23 (M)
Sun Belt: #19 (W); #13 (M)

ummmmm.......

(Not to mention that if we did move, we would not have the 2016 football championship.)

RE: CAA Schedule Hurts Basketball Recruiting
If our FBS aspirations don't involve pursuing FB-only FBS membership in these coming years, that would be a mistake. FB-only FBS conference alignment seems to be very likely as conferences adjust to the reality of declining media revenue in the G5.

Guess my point is I don't think non-FB sport conference comparisons matter as much. Sure, it would be ideal to put all sports in one league for simplicity's sake, but that's not even happening right now. We have varsity sports with non-CAA affiliate membership competing without significant issue.

For clarity, I wasn't complaining that we haven't pursued FB-only previously. Just that it makes more & more sense moving forward if we can find an agreeable partner conference.

Two interesting posts. With several teams choosing to become FBS independents, it might open the door for a football only FBS league.

I believe it's decisions like this that really hurt recruiting (see story on one prominent player):

http://jmusportsblog.com/
The comment that Curry only had one D1 offer has been incorrectly played/distorted into a myth. Yes, he was underrecruited because of his size at that time, but he had other programs after him. He has often stated that William and Mary came after him the hardest. He didn't end up at Davidson because it was his only offer. Yes, in hindsight we would all like to have him as an alumnus, but it's a stretch to assume the JMU staff somehow blew it. Davidson was a well thought out choice for him, not his only option.

Davidson is a well coached team. It was a perfect place for Curry, though I'm not really sure his desire was to stay that close to home, almost too close.

Yeah even prior to Steph Curry Davidson was a good program with a great coach. Probably a bit of fiction to suggest that JMU had a shot at Steph Curry but JMU and Keener decided to pass on him. I think if JMU offers he still ends up at Davidson. The Steph Curry only had one offer story has become like the MJ cut from his high school basketball team story at this point. Both are exaggerated and embellished for Hollywood. When did Steph commit- my guess is he committed early after making some unofficial visits when he technically may have had 1 official offer but he was recruited.

Marcus Camby was an example back when Lefty was coach of a player that JMU was a finalist for (along with UConn and Umass I believe) that had they gotten him the course of history for JMU MBB would have forever been changed.

Before him was Moses Malone while at Maryland. Lefty was in on so many big names and got his fair share of them. Take the Davison coach and Lefty, mix them together, and you have coach K..

Let me add to your theory... where did Lefty coach before Muuurland??? That's right, Davidson and Terry Holland was his top assistant.
