ECU Ticket question
Hey ECU fans. Do any of you know how many tickets are given to OOC teams? And when we give contracts for the game do we ever just give money and an allotment of tickets or do we sometimes just give money?

What do you mean? The visiting team usually gets a 5K allotment of seats and that is usually the section on the upper deck side by the Murph.

I'm having a discussion with a JMU poster on the CAA board. He said that the JMU ECU contract does not have an allotment of tickets. I found that odd since I have heard of us giving tickets as part of the contract. I am looking for proof in writing somewhere that shows that we offer tickets as part of the contract.

RE: ECU Ticket question
I think he's confused. ODU's contract to come to ECU in 2013 basically gave ODU 4000 tickets as part of the payment. So if we didn't sell them we'd be out of money. I think usually the home team makes an allotment available and if they aren't sold the tickets go back to the home team to sell or in some cases the visitors will ask for more. In those cases I imagine the revenue still goes to the home team.

Seems like they'd get a few. They are on the fringe of Pirate country.

Easiest thing to do would be to call the JMU ticket office to see if they have tix to the game. They might not be able to tell you how many, but you'll know if they have an allotment.

Also, don't go to the CAA board.

Yeah, visitors get a 4-5K ticket block to sell on their own. The unsold tickets by that school go back to ECU and ECU then gets to sell them as ticket window tickets. I'm not 100% sure if they would hold back tickets for game day sales only versus the day the unsold tickets from the school come back they can be bought.

RE: ECU Ticket question
The guy seems to think the ODU model was a benefit to ODU. It was a benefit to ECU as part of the deal for getting the game. Usually we are on the hook for any monies not collected from visiting team ticket sales, ODU assumed the liability. He was saying it was good for them in terms of fan numbers because they were stuck with all the tickets and ended up giving the excess allotment away. He's probably not wrong that it increased the number of visiting fans but for an FCS school looking for a pay day it is not really about getting more fans into the stands it's about the paycheck which ODU ended up getting less of as a result.

RE: ECU Ticket question
An allotment of tickets for the visiting team is standard practice. Given JMUs location, I'd be shocked if it wasn't 4-5k.

Well according to them they weren't offered any. Just the money.

Perhaps they were given bad information. Because we always give an allotment of tickets to the visiting team. That's why we have visiting team sections (both in the lower and upper decks). Anything unsold by the visiting team usually gets returned back to us.
Note this section on JMU's website where the ticket information is:

How do I order tickets to the away football games?
The Athletic Ticket Office begins taking orders for away football games on July 1. Tickets order are filled in order of Duke Club Priority then by order date. In the event ticket orders exceed our allotment some orders may not be filled and will be issued a refund (internet processing fees cannot be refunded). Order quantity limits may be imposed for selected away games based on the allotment received by JMU Athletics.
