Memphis. I felt very unsafe there, be it just a few blocks off Beale St. or near the Liberty Bowl.
Yeah, it has blues and BBQ, but I also dare anyone to walk somewhere alone after dark.

I'll save SMU and UH people the time - people in Dallas hate Houston and vise versa even though both cities are very similar. Personslly, I like Houston, a lot.
I'm not a big fan of Phoenix.

I haven't been to tulsa but have been to the rest of AAC football cities. Greenville was the worst. 2nd worst is Houston. Favorite is new orleans, tampa, and philly.

I've been to Memphis so I can tell you that the locals there are really strange people, they mumble when talking to and they wear big heavy coats all year round and they hunch over and hide behind big dark glasses, I think their from planet Claire...who really knows

I do it ALL the time. The area around the Liberty Bowl is Cooper-Young and CBU...you also have the Coke bottling plant and a RR loading/unloading site.
Cooper-Young
CBU
coca-cola factory
lots of great places to eat like Central BBQ and Soul Fish Cafe.
of course, I also didn't feel unsafe walking around NO at night...so maybe I'm just not afraid of people.

I think you walked up to some homeless folks and started chatting...I guess that's one way to get to know a city

RE: Favorite AAC city to dislike
I liked my visit to Houston a couple years ago for the Houston Rodeo. We have some friends who work at Rice, so we stayed in and around Rice Village and did the whole Rodeo thing. Great food in Houston.

RE: Favorite AAC city to dislike
I know I am going to buck a trend, but my "Favorite AAC City to dislike" is, without a doubt, New Orleans. I get "why" people like Bourbon Street and the French Quarter, but it's not really my taste. Plus, the one time I was in the City, I (and my now ex-wife) were robbed, in daylight in the park alongside the river when a group of a dozen or so guys surrounded us, demanded just my cash, and then disappeared like smoke in the wind. When I tried to make a report, the PD was like, "Hey, you lost $200, what do you want us to do?"
If I ever go back to NOLA, it'll be too soon.

I hate humidity and excessive heat; therefore, Houston, and New Orleans can F off.

RE: Favorite AAC city to dislike
Come to think of it, I've only been to 5 AAC cities -- 6 if you count Hartford for UConn. The only ones I have spent any significant amount of time in are Cincinnati, Tampa, and Houston. There are things I like and dislike about all 3. Memphis did look like a dump, but I only passed through. Looks aren't everything though -- I went to Detroit a few weeks ago and had a blast.
