Let's hope not. I wish him well.

I do too, but name one Alabama politician that has survived with a good clean reputation.

Tony Petelos for one. But since you typically only hear of politicians when the do something negative, there could be many more.

This is an extremely cynical view, but it is much more likely he becomes corrupted by the system than he cleans the system up. If he is elected and becomes some kind of super reform crusader, then he becomes a target to be taken down.

"Big Luther" Strange is running for the U.S. Senate on a platform to "help President Trump drain the swamp in D.C." He doesn't mention his role as a big alligator in the Alabama "swamp" in Montgomery - while protecting Gov. Bentley from impeachment proceedings. So far, all of his TV ads have been centered on running against Obama rather than any state level opponents.

The idea that Strange could get elected using that strategy is what is so disgusting to me about the" intelligence" of the electorate that is swayed by such stuff.

More interesting is that Trump and those in his orbit haven't tacitly endorsed Strange, nor did the RNC okay funding for the reelection campaign until today. Got to kiss the ring first, I suppose.

The Republican Senate Campaign Committee has said from the day Strange was sworn in that he would be treated as any other incumbent in terms of crushing any other Republican that runs against him

Probably, but there's a celebrity endorsement from his hometown that could make things interesting.

If Jesus stepped down from on high and told you to vote for somebody, wouldn't you vote for them?

By "you" I mean the the average Alabamian, of course.

The days of running for governor, and winning in the state of Alabama, are over with.......at least for now. He would be better off running as an independent.

Jesus has told people to do a lot of things, and they certainly aren't doing them.

Maybe I should have spelled out Little Nicky Saban.

I knew who you meant and Alabamians are more likely to do what he tells them to do than they are what Jesus tells them.

And I would be surprised if he got involved. He would not lower himself to get involved in the affairs of men.

Strange's vote is firmly in McConnell's hip pocket. He'll fall in line and do what he's told. He got to the Senate and will now play the incumbent card for every advantage in order to stay there. McConnell does not want more far right wing unpredictable Tea Party types in his caucus. He's fighting to keep the frogs in the wheelbarrow as it is, with just a two vote margin. The last thing he needs is to have to deal with Roy Moore or Mo Brooks.

A shitton of outside money is going to be buying commercials for Strange. I hope they annoy the voters a great deal. Luther's a crook and a sell out.

RE: Walt Maddox considering running for governor
If Walt gets the Democratic nomination for Governor, expect the conservatives in Alabama to try to link him to the "aborigine" vote as Luther Strange is doing by the videos used in his present campaign ads. Will this approach work for them as well as it has in the past state elections? We will just have to wait to see. The state's power players have so far been successful in keeping the bottom 60% divided along racial lines since the 1960s. I hope this new century will see a new Alabama voter who arises above race as a primary motivation.

I agree. My point earlier was about the RNC not sending money Luther's way until very recently, probably because there's a lot of support for Mo Brooks, which is not something McConnell wants to deal with.
