The Cincinnati Business Journal should sue the Cincinnati Enquirer for lease records.

They are probably paying around $23 per RSF, so they want to unload space that they obligated through 2022.....probably 8-9 Million.

Not sure why in this day and age an outfit like the Enquirer needs office space for staff beyond the accounting and operations folks. Perhaps they now agree. Seriously, does Tom Groeshen or Doc really need a physical office and a desk to do what they do? Does any of their content staff? They can work from any Starbucks in town.

Knowing someone who has worked (and is still working) for a couple Gannett papers in trying to modernize what they do I would somewhat disagree, but you are right on the fact that the space can (and has in many places) been considerably downsized. I know in Tennessee Gannett acquired the major papers from the big 3 cities. They have basically moved operations for those papers to Nashville with much smaller setups for the other papers. There has been a big shift in where these papers are trying to get their income. My best friend came up as an editor but has really made himself valuable with moving his focus to digital layout and priority stuff. While layoffs have hit every time he's started at a new Gannett paper he's been safe as a result. From talking to him it still seems there is a lot of need for on sight staff to address these areas properly and make sure they are maximizing potential views. That can involve working directly with editors (and to a lesser extent writers) in a pretty hands on way over a short period of time. So while, I don't think the need for on sight staff has gone away, they certainly don't need the room they used to and what you've seen with big companies like Gannett is having an office make these decisions for multiple papers. I think the enquirer is behind some of these other Gannett papers in these areas.

They got rid of a bunch of people some time ago, so don't why it took them so long to try to unload space. I read somewhere that PDoc brings in 40% of the Enquirer hits/clicks etc.

And if I didn't know any better, I would think that PDoc was writing all of his articles remotely from the Baltimore / DC area.

Hell, I heard from a reliable source he covered the masters from his couch. He could have went, just decided not to. So I doubt he needs an office, he doesn't sound like he will leave the couch.

Yep. Gannett has simply ruined all the local papers they have gotten their hands on. Hopefully they all just go away completely in the near future. It's the same way in Nashville. The Tennessean is worthless. The info is outdated, 90% of the journalists know nothing about the actual city or culture and just write political commentaries on every subject matter.

RE: OT, Enquirer almost done
I remember when the Enquirer had "down on the farm" a sports section that tracked all of the minor league baseball players from greater Cincy, HS, College attended etc. That was also the same time they have a giant college sports football Sunday paper spread, usually highlighting the Big Ten and ND, and then on page 3 a write up on UC, couple of paragraphs.

They call me every week asking me to re up. I tell them when they print a retraction of their Hillary Endorsement, which is when I cancelled.
