Summer Update for Director of Athletics Mark Ingram
Quote:June 27, 2017

Dear Blazer Nation,

We hope that you are doing well and enjoying your summer. Here at UAB, we are hard at work. There are 268 student-athletes in summer school who are all training for their upcoming seasons and getting ahead academically. Our goal is to have the best competitive year that we’ve ever had and we are working towards that goal each day.

I’m sure you have seen by now that our very own superstar Sam Hunt has generously offered to play a free concert on Friday night, September 1 before our first football game against Alabama A&M. We intend to create an unforgettable weekend for the city of Birmingham. Single-game football tickets will go on sale to our current season ticket holders on July 5, giving them priority on additional tickets to any game during the season. July 10 is when all other fans can begin purchasing single-game tickets. Learn how you can get tickets to the concert by visiting uab.edu/houseparty and to the game at uabsports.com/tickets.

The Football Operations Center looks spectacular!! MJ Harris Construction has done a fantastic job and will be handing us the keys in just a few days so that we can begin moving in. Our players and staff can hardly wait to move into one of the nicest facilities of its kind in the country. Please join us at 9 a.m. on August 18 for the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting event.

Please help us welcome three new coaches to our UAB family. Recently we hired Erica Demers as our Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Kyra Iannone as our Head Beach Volleyball Coach and Cody Sellers as Head Coach for our Spirit Squads. Each of them are excited to be Blazers and are committed to providing a world-class experience to our student-athletes.

In addition to the Football Operations Center, we are also working on a few other projects this summer. Thanks to several generous donors, we are currently renovating our Women’s Basketball locker room which will be a tremendous asset to our team. Additionally, we are renovating the Green and Gold Hospitality Room at Bartow Arena. Not only do a large number of our donors enjoy this space during basketball season, but it is a place where all of our teams can gather for meetings and team meals. Finally, we will begin resurfacing the infield at Young Memorial Field on July 1. This is the primary practice space for our baseball team and where we play the second half of our home season. The field is over 40 years old, so this is a greatly needed upgrade for our team and staff.

Our goal is to renovate or build a new facility for all of our sports teams so that they are in the best position possible to be successful and to make our fans, alumni and community proud. We hope to see you soon, but certainly when we relaunch Football on September 2!!

Go Blazers!

Cool to see those other three projects getting done. I'm interested to see what upgrades they're doing to the G&G room.
