Agree to a degree.

Not sure it made the headlines here, but last fall in Chapel Hill, a UNC football player was accused by a girl of rape. He said it was consensual. DA didn't have enough evidence to prosecute, so the girl took out misdemeanor warrants against the player. He was suspended from the team at this point. UNC Title IX looked into and found no fault in the player. She appealed, which triggered an administrative review. They confirmed the original finding. Finally this week the charges from her warrants were dismissed. His lawyer is looking into a means to get his lost, final year of eligibility back.

A lot of universities have gotten out of control with this crap. Similar stories all over the news. Scream rape at college and you can ruin someone with no evidence just because of muh social justice. Any man should find this unacceptable and the fact that so many go along with it is sad. It has gotten so bad, when I hear of an allegation, my knee-jerk reaction is that she is lying. All they are doing is ruining innocent people and hurting real victims and keeping them in the closet.

Unfortunatley there are a lot more rapist playing (bc lack of evidence or girls not reporting) than there are falsely accused not playing. That doesnt make it any easoer for the UNC player if he was innocent.

Im not sure the answer. I bet some of it is the coaches knowing the players involved.

There are plenty of players playing college sports that have gotten away with the full range of crimes from DUI, to drugs, to rape, to murder. But in this country, we go by English Common Law, not Huffington Post Appeasement Law.

Look at Baylor, Penn State and Oklahoma for the most egregious examples of sports success being put above anything else. Recruiting violations and academic fraud abound all over the NCAA. I hate to see our guys dismissed but I would hate it even more if they weren't held accounatble.

My father went to UNC Chapel Hill. He cut all donations after the AA studies scandal. I'm rather proud to come from a school where athletes graduate and no one is above the law.

Where is Larry Pinkard these days?

Jaguars, I believe. He certainly would have played if he committed "crime" at most schools.

I heard a rumor it was three strikes for marijuana possession or use.

Whatever it was is irrelevant. He agreed to follow the rules, broke them and suffered the consequences regardless of where he was on the depth chart. Selig and Wilder's finest hour in my opinion. Integrity first.

Looks like we found a major piece of our recruiting woes.

Yeah, what integrity.

To be honest, if we dont get kids because they are worried about not being able to follow the rules, Im ok with them not coming. We have a pretty successful athletic program without them.

I heard the same thing. And the thing I heard, from someone in the admin, was a ridiculous reason to end a kid's career. I'm not sure ODU even had a choice though... a little unclear on that part.

You don't here many stories like that coming from other programs. I have a hard time believing either ODU has no choice or athletes at other schools don't smoke weed. Unless someone has some other logical facts, I tend to believe ODU needs to get with the times. I don't expect to become Florida State or Louisville where everything goes and there is no accountability, but there has to be some happy median and common sense. A good principle to follow is non-aggression. If it doesn't directly affect someone else negatively (theft, violence, leaks), why the witch hunts?

Pinkard obviously screwed up, but I also don't believe the punishment fit the crime. But, I think our hands were tied (football coaches).
