At the top of my CFB wishlist...
Shorter games. This headline from the NFL caught my attention and gave me hope for CFB.

Granted, it says that the amount of time for commercials will be the same, but that there will be fewer "pods" of commercials (fewer breaks).

Shortening the video replay breaks will go a long way too.

I just hope they stay AHEAD of this dislike with the longer games in CFB (which seems longer than NFL games to me) and make other changes for the viewing experience. (On screen ads during play breaks...commercials in between plays (during replays)...) Football has enough "down time"...we don't need EXTRA commercial time like they seem to be adding.

Let's make a normal, 4 quarter CFB game 2:40 and a long one 3:00...rather than a short one is 3:05 and a long one is 3:30 like it is now.

Shorter games could mean that one network could show five games in one day. For example:

11:00 AM - Wake Forest vs. Boston College
2:00 PM - West Virginia vs. TCU
5:00 PM - Tennessee vs. Ole Miss
8:00 PM - Florida State vs. Clemson
11:00 PM - Oregon State vs. California

Viewers on the west coast can still watch their late local news, if their eyes still work after watching that much football.

As it currently is, viewers can only watch 4 games in that time period. That's a significant bump, chargeradio.

RE: At the top of my CFB wishlist...
Over the years, TIVO, Netflix, HBO and smartphones have changed the way people watch their video content and their expectations while watching. The old idea of flipping channels and seeing things live as they happen has been replaced by the idea clicking on a saved the video and only watching the best parts of that video and fast-forwarding or skipping all the boring parts. Even if somebody is watching live, odds are when a comercial comes on, people use the time to check their phone.

Netflix and HBO have proven that many people want an option to pay for content that does not require watching comercials instead of sitting through free live content with comercials.

The day is coming when the NFL and all sports will have to consider offering an option of letting fans pay to watch a game that does not have commercials. Fans who do not pay for that option will get an alternative viewing option that will show commercials while live action still continures. The key is all the time standing around doing nothing during an NFL game needs to go away.

You'll need to explain this future reality a bit more clearly to me.

The way I'm hearing you...
If 20% of the fans pay for "live, uninterrupted" games...they'll have the true "live" experience. And will be tweeting results...and posting them in real time on the internet. So, by the 2nd quarter, the poor people (the other 80%) living in your "commercial-ized" world will be 20 minutes behind the real game...and that's pretty much unbearable.

I don't think that's going to work. That's going to kill the sport because the majority of fans will not have "realistic" access to the live sporting event anymore. We agree that the "standing around waiting" part of football needs to disappear...but two streams of experiencing the game won't fly.

Forget the news. That's the time we try to find a stream of the Hawaii game.

No problem, I will be happy to clarify.

the comercialized game will cut away from live action to go to commercial and will rejoin live action when it returns from commercial. Whatever the viewer missed can be shown in a replay if it was important.

My wishlist?

Reduce kick off returns by making a kickoff that goes through an upright 1 point and the returning team gets the ball at the 20. Touchbacks go out to the 25. Now teams are short kicking making teams return from the 1 or 2 yard line. I would like to see the NFL adopt the same rule.

20 team conferences broken down into 4 divisions. Not just the power conferences but all the FBS conferences.

FBS no longer allowed to play FCS teams. All conferences play 10 conference games and every team will play 13 games in the regular season.

An expanded playoff to 12 teams. 4 power conference champs get a bye (yes, in my perfect scenario there are 4 power conferences). The next 8 play in a first round with the highest rated G4 champ getting an auto bid.

4 Power Conferences made up of 20 teams each and 4 Group of 4 conferences made up of 20 teams each.

That is never actually going to happen. It's either pay to watch the game or you don't get to watch the game are the only options in that world.

They seem more worried about the game time than the 2 hours of commercials. I'd rather they work on not disrupting the flow of the game.

I've seen some stuff on ESPN Classic where they cut portions of the game that don't mean anything. They just say something like, "After a 3-and-out by team-x, team-y has a 1st and 10 at their 32."

The players don't need squat. They still get a 45 second break between every play. IF the NFL got rid of commercial breaks, the players and coaches will adapt or they will be let go.

I would not be so sure what HBO or Netflix would do if they got an NFL package. Netflix especially seems to do a good job of giving customers what they want and they don't force you to watch anything that you don't want. Its one big reason Netflix is doing better than Hulu.
