A good signing especially if Jackson turns out to be a solid recruit and forces Roberts to transfer. I just wonder if Hill will redshirt this year. He is only 6-5 or 6-6 but this kid is going to make some jaws drop inside Savage Arena real soon...

I like the signing of a quality player, just wish he was a post player.

What I read from this updated roster move is that we plan on playing faster and going a Golden State Warriors/Central Michigan type of pace to score 90-100 points every night. That may win a few more games but anyone who watches the MACMadness in person every year like I do knows that you still need a quality post player (or two) to win the championship. I don't see anything on the roster right (low post players) now giving us hope to end 37-years of frustration.

Knapke won't be a dominant post player, but i think you'll see a more effective scorer and passer who plays all over at 6-11.

if, IF, logan hill is an impact player (even as a good 15-20 min/game role player) and, AND, we stay healthy, we will have enough inside with all the big swingmen types around them.

what this signee does is put together a large competitive group of young guards and small forwards to practice with every day. hill, w jackson, Littleson, Dwayne Rose, alderson, M Jackson. those guys are gonna play with speed and attack the rim. you will have to assert yourself defensively or these guys will dunk on you-all of them -minus m jackson.

Another big would have been nice but Alderson is too good to pass up. Steve Bell at Bank Hoops had him ranked as the 6th best Sr in Michigan this year. He is described as a great athlete and all around player with top level pedigree and discipline. He was slated to contribute early at UW Milwaukee. Coach Lavall Jordan was very high on Alderson. He and Littleson played AAU together on the highly ranked All Ohio Red team.

Dan Fife's Clarkston team was loaded and there are still some promising underclassmen there if K can keep the Michigan pipeline flowing.

With only two players 6-8 or taller, this has to be the shortest team in the MAC-maybe by a long way. They will have to run. I think Knapke can be quite a bit better. He is a good athlete who just needs more confidence. He and Adway need to be more aggressive around the basket.

NBA trickle down .... small ball is all the rage. Kent State turned its season around moving its 6-3 swingman to starting PF then winning 10 of their last 11 or something like that.

Like all sports ... monkey see, monkey do.

Mizzu transfer is really an undersized 4-man ... Colorado guy is a 3/4 Navigato a stretch 4 ... if they defend and rebound Rockets will contend just fine.

i agree with your comments

although small ball is a bit of a misnomer. it's really more about playing more skilled midsize guys who can really shoot or run and jump. it's about playing guys who are good even if they aren't the prototype for a certain position.

at first i wasn't really sure how the the last 2 recruits made this class come together. now, that i watch more of their tape and see how it adds up the 2021 class is mostly skilled 6-3 to 6-6 guys who are athletic mostly good shooters. willie jackson in the 2020 class ) can play that skilled 4 man role with Hill. alderson and hill are very aggressive offensive players. marreon jackson is a clever, quick lanky 6 foot pg. he could add some pace to the offense and allow sanford rest or some sg minutes.

regardless, I think it is a good possibility the new guys will fill several key roles pretty well. but the season will likely rest on 2 things
-how good fletcher is
-how much knapke improves and stays healthy

fletcher might have been the best player in practice last year. he was the highest ranked hs recruit among all the classes. he can play guard at 6-7. he's a grown man at 23. we will need him to not just look good out there but lead the team and establish an identity at both ends.

knapke is our only big. but with his skill set he could be a unique big guy for the mac. really good touch from all over. is he ready to be a legit 3 point threat at 6-11? has his post game kept improving?

these young guys are a promising group. hopefully, the vets have big years and it falls into place.

The general feeling is that the team will miss Taylor and JonJon but I do not think that is the case. Once the ball got inside to Taylor the whole pace of the offense slowed down. He often forced shots instead of kicking the ball back out. When JonJon was hot he was virtually unstoppable. However, he took a whole lot of shots and only had a high percentage of makes when he drove inside. There are a lot of unknowns on this team but we have a roster that could go 10 or 11 deep. After Garber got injured, we just did not have enough fresh bodies last season to come on strong the last 5 minutes of the games.

While I oved watching Jon Jon play we almost won both games he missed and against Ball state they played better than the game they lost when he played in the game.

One more thing when they won the MAC in 06/07 Tino Valencia was the post play and while he was listed at 6'4" He was really probably not taller than 6'2'

Very good point about the 06/07 team. The tallest player on that team was 6-7 Jerrah Young

The roster is now up to the 13 allowed players. We have one transfer who has to sit out this year. We have one player who will be eligible at the end of the first semester. Therefore, we start the season with 11 eligible players. Most years we redshirt someone but I do not think it is necessary this year. It would be great to have a full roster of guys who can contribute. Under Coach K it seems that we have always had a short bench. Hopefully, that will not be the issue this year.

If everyone returns after this upcoming season, we will have one scholarship to offer for the 2018 class. He needs to be really good and big-no mistakes.

The way things go everywhere there will be at least 1 transfer as well and this is not an indictment on anyone it happens at all schools these days

Tino... was a master at getting his shot off even for his size. Bulk matters ;-)

I like the roster for 2017-18 even though we are "short". Pono and others in previous posts have provided very nice analyses of the team . Coach K has increased the overall athleticism dramatically since his arrival which I applaud. Just how good the newcomers will be as basketball players is to be seen. I'm sure my season ticket money will be well spent this season. I look forward to a fun season at savage.

Go Rockets!

yeah, should be a fun team. and there is a good non-conf home and away schedule for a change. early indications are that willie jackson is one of the top players but he doesn't become eligible until mid december so i wouldn't expect the team to fully peak until mac season.
