Shy They. Are. Both. The. Same.
The father of one of my best friends in college owned the McDonald's and Burger King located directly across the highway from each other in a little town in Ohio. Those franchises, as well as a nearby gas station, were all very lucrative for that family. The last time I checked in on them they still owned all of that and they had purchased a few more businesses in that small area, including a rival gas station.

I distinctly remember asking Gino's father about it during one Dad's Weekend and he said the key is to play them off each other. At the end of the day, he didn't care where people spent their money, only that they spent their money because he was going to get his cut one way or the other.

He was a very nice man – I'm sure he still is. I don't see them anymore but he was a brilliant and kind gentleman who had simply figured out how to game the system and how to manipulate the public into providing a very nice life for he and his family. Good for them!

When I read boards like this or watch or listen to political discussions I often find myself thinking of that conversation many years ago.

Guys, you are being duped. I don't care which side you "root" for, you are being taken advantage of and you probably don't even realize it. When the Republicans win, MSNBC cashes in. Their ratings are through the roof right now. When the Democrats win, that's when Fox really shines.

Do you really think the execs at Fox hate Obama? They probably send the Obama's Christmas cards every year. He made them the go-to station for everyone who hated the guy. The same goes for the MSNBC folks and Trump. He basically provides their programming for them every single night. Do you honestly think the conservative media wants the Clinton's to go away? Not a chance!

Guys, they are all partners. They each own all of the Burger King's and the McDonald's - if you understand the metaphor.

Don't forget that for one second – they all play for the same team and it's not the team most of us play for. They are married to each other, they are fraternity brothers, they are business associates, they are best friends, they are partners. All of them are constantly lining their pockets while Americans on both sides of the political fence fall for it one gullible dumbarse out of time.

The problem is us. We are not as savvy in our consumption of news is they are in their exploitation of it. We have to raise our game and understand that we are being constantly manipulated left and right and to trust either side is incredibly foolish.

lol....some of us just play this game as we smoke, drink, and gamble on mlb (tis' that season)

#brainwashing was observed at the age o' earliest for some......in my case, it helped being baptized a catholic.....

if you aren't in the camp of understanding biased/funded agendas, I have zero sympathy....

as your friend's pappy understood, so do others when it comes to manipulation......

like any other bbs, this board is simply a pop off valve for some.....and some of these fellers are pretty savvy.....

today's rake......some of us like action.....

Great post and rings very true. Some of us "hope" that this collusion represents the "swamp", but that view may be a little naive, as well.

Both are both believed to be constitutionally protected rights which each side believed in endangered by one of the political parties.

That you think one side is cheering for the party which wants to take their right away "because muh gun sales" but the other does not only shows you missed the entire damn point of this thread.

No bull, we are just not smart enough to appreciate that special mind that Juan has. He is the smartest guy on the boards, and if you doubt it, he'll be sure to remind you of Juan's "truff"

This is a variation on the "but they do it too argument". The tried and true "both parties are crooked" argument".

I call what's described in the thread-starter here the "script flip".

Take the scripts from December 2008, change the nouns and a few adverbs, and pass them across the table. Welcome to December 2016.

______'s unfit for office because he's ______!!!
2008: Obama; not a natural born citizen (proof?)
2016: Trump; mentally deranged (proof?)

_____'s gonna take away our ______!!!
2008: Obama; guns
2016: Trump; abortion rights

_____ is talking behind the scenes and making deals with _____.
2008: Obama; Iran.
2016: Trump; Russia.

_____ is going to load up the Supreme Court with a bunch of ___-wing nut jobs and set the country back 40 years!!!
2008: Obama; left
2016: Trump; right
