Grizzlies Free Agency Outlook
Figured this could serve as a visual representation of where things stand as of today:

A couple of thoughts:

1. Cap Room is how much we have to spend on outside free agents. I believe we can also utilize the MLE ($5.63M) and a Bi-Annual Exception ($1.62M), which would bring our total to $12.25M to spend on outside free agents.

2. Tax Room is how much we can spend on our own free agents before dipping into the luxury tax.

3. There's no set contract/salary structure for 2nd Round picks, but I included some similar draft pick from previous years for reference. We could offer less.

Hometown, thanks, good chart as always.

But, IIRC, you have the wrong MLE. The MLE you quoted is for taxpayers. Grizz are not taxpayers, so we can use the non-taxpayer MLE which is around $8M.

Good Stuff. Thx Hometown.

Looks like there is little choice but to see if you can sign ZBo, TA, and maybe Vince; hope that Parsons returns to form, hope you can find a serviceable back up PG amongst Harrison, Baldwin and Brooks, hope that either Rabb or Davis can contribute ...

It's a lotta hopin'!

RE: Grizzlies Free Agency Outlook
Here's what I found on non-taxpayer MLE:

"The Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level exception will increase from $5.8 million to $8.4 million . . ."

So I think Grizz have up to $8.4 M to spend with its MLE, but we don't have to spend all of it.

Good find. You're correct.

Should give us even more flexibility

With Tony Allen getting 2nd team All Defense, and ZBo finishing 4th in 6th Man of the Year, I'm afraid our older FA's are getting more expensive.

What stats? He's nit even top 50 in individual defensive stats like defensive win share and individual defensive rating

He had the best steals % in the league and was second among SGs in real defensive +/-

Also...he was almost-elite whenever he played against elite players. Kawhi had a below 40% shooting rate against TA. Anytime TA sat, Kawhi went ham. TA is an old role player that was still able to singlehandedly win a few games for us, eg. Orlando and Lakers earlier in the season. He has slowed down and is no longer first team all defense. But he's still one of the best wing defenders in the league when engaged.

Facts but will he take 1.5 with someone throws him 6.5?

I wasn't talking about the money. Just pointing out the fact that it's not ridiculous he still was all defense.

Oh man....I understand that. I agree with you. Now I'm asking your opinion and the board's as it pertains to the money question.

No, I don't think Tony will return if it comes down to that.

Tony might have some good options. Would be perfect for the Cavs if they could move Shumpert. Been rumored to the 76ers. And Doc loves his old Celtic vets, and suddenly the Clips have to re-work their roster. Thibs in Minnesota would love Tony, and they just traded Levine, their SG.

RE: Grizzlies Free Agency Outlook
A surprise, to me, from Sacramento. Not they blew another high draft pick, but the lack of a QO:

The Kings won’t tender a qualifying offer to free agent guard Ben McLemore, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.com (via Twitter). The move ensures that McLemore will become an unrestricted free agent, rather than a restricted free agent.

Not that the Kings don't expect to keep McLemore next season. But his QO was only $4.2M, and Sac is under the cap. Make the QO and try to move him. Guess they were afraid that McLemore might accept the QO, and then they are stuck with him.

Wallace loves Kansas guys and top recruits. McLemore is from St. Louis, so we would be close to his home. He played better towards the end of last season, started some games and shot 38% from 3. That being said, he's been pretty bad, is a terrible defender, and hasn't progressed much in his 4 seasons in the league.

Oh my bad

The fan in me wants him to accept but the offer can be seen as disrespectful. It all depends on how and if the Grizz approached him before making the offer known.

Yeah I think McLemore is who he's pretty much at this point. I doubt he gets much better. If he could defend then maybe he would have been a decent player to go after.

Not sure where I stand. Depends on what his contract would be. I don't think we have an open roster spot, would he accept a camp invite with no guarantee? If another team offers him good money, or multiple years, we move on.

The 'pro' signing him argument is that Ben has been in a totally dysfunctional organization his entire career. Terrible owner and GM. Catered to the whims of Boogie for years. And he is young and can shoot.

RE: Grizzlies Free Agency Outlook
Yikes, when a guy like David Aldridge tweets this 30 hours before Free Agency starts, he knows something:

David Aldridge ‏Verified account @daldridgetnt

Will be a strong market for Grizzlies' UFA/perennial DPOY candidate Tony Allen, still an elite wing defender. Likely to sign quickly.

My guess is TA's agent or a front office has told Aldridge something. Guessing Minnesota or the Clips.
