How does joiner only get 1.8 assists a game? I understand that he got all the points but you're telling me he couldn't get it to a teammate to score 3 times a game?

Thanks Pistol. Curious, what do you think of the addition of Casey Benson? Obviously not a scorer like Dewayne, but instantly may become the top assist to turnover guy in the league.

There will be a few D1 transfers who make an impact this season. I think Benson will be a benefit but with Shaq Carr returning and a young Milstead coming onboard, I'm not sure if Benson will be a starter or come off the bench. Also, Majele needs to find time for Aidoo. GCU is deep at guard but I'm not sure any of them are ready to replace Dewayne Russell. So, I think it is going to be GCU's inside game which will become the forefront of Majerle's offense this coming season.

My list was strictly focused on incoming freshmen and JUCOs. But there will be D1 transfers who will play prominent roles on some of the WAC teams. Seattle has brought in quite a few D1 transfers. UVU has lived on D1 transfers and they have a new batch who could make an impact this season. UTRGV has a few who could bolster their team. NMSU is even banking on OSU transfer AJ Harris to make an immediate impact.

New Mexico State is loaded in my opinion. I even believe Wayne Stewart is a upgrade to Braxton Huggins.

Here is Wayne Stewart Highlights

I think "probably" Huggins is a better perimeter shooter than Stewart but the rest of Stewart's game is more likely better. Stewart can rebound well, post up smaller guards, block shots, hit FT at a very high clip, and shoot & make shots within a smaller window of opportunity. Their respective defenses are debatable. Neither has shown much but Stewart now has Jans to teach him. So... yes CA, I think Stewart is an upgrade given what he brings to the team.

Although, as previously stated in other threads, the "real" upgrade at the shooting guard position is if Sidy Ndir is healthy and resuming his role. He was our most complete player on the team before he went down to injury last December. Stewart is actually an upgrade "offensively" from Matt Taylor and Jermaine Haley.

NMSU will be better offensively at every position except at point guard from last season. But I think the combination of AJ Harris and Buchanan should be close to or exceed Bakers output.

***EDITED***
What I find interesting is this Stewart video highlights mostly his three point shooting. Yet, Stewart made less than a 1/3 of his field goals from outside the arc (62 made); shooting an average 36.6%. Yet it was Stewart's shooting inside the arc where he did most of his damage (143 made); shooting 53.6% inside the arc "only". Adding to that, he was (is) a very good free throw shooter (84.2%, 112-133) making him a very difficult "BIG" guard/small forward to stop.

I believe with Stewart he might need to work on his shot selection. He is a good shooter. If he takes good shots, we could very well see him shoot over 40% from 3pt next season.

RE: 2017 Basketball Recruiting Class
Oooo... SeattleVandal "almost" poked the bear (Coach) with his recruiting class comment... then he retracted.

I think Seattle has some solid additions but only three of their D1 transfers will get to play this season...

This season...
Richaud Gittens, 6'4, GR, Weber State transfer - 7.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 1.8 APG, (Rivals 3-Star)
Jordan Hill, 6'3, GR, Wisconsin transfer - 1.5 PPG, 1.1 RPG. 0.5 APG
Josh Hearlihy, 6'8, GR, Vermont transfer - 2.0 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 0.6 APG
Aaron Nettles, 6'0, FR, - 14.5 PPG

Next season...
Delante Jones, 6'5, JR, American U. transfer - 11.5 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.8 APG, (ESPN 3-Star)
Dashawn McDowell, 6'5, SO, SMU transfer - 1.4 PPG, 1.0 RPG, 0.5 APG, (Rivals 3-Star & Scout 3-Star)
Matt Owies, 6'0, SO, - Hawai'i transfer - 3.6 PPG, 0.9 RPG, 0.9 APG.

However the "biggest" addition to this season's Seattle team well be the return of 7'3 Aaron Menzies.

So, you think Seattle U. out recruited NMSU?

As Coach pointed out, NMSU adds...

Shunn Buchanan, 6'0, SO - 12.7 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 5.3 APG
LaMarcus Lee, 6'2, SO - 15.6 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 2.5 APG
Gabe Hadley, 6'3, FR - 17.5 PPG, 4.9 PPG, 1.0 APG
Kortrijk Miles, 6'4, FR - 22.0 PPG, 12.0 RPG
Wayne Stewart, 6'6, JR - 18.3 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.3 APG (Top 50 JUCO)

Addtionally NMSU has the following coming off redshirt...

AJ Harris, 5'9, SO, Ohio State transfer - 2.8 PPG, 1.0 RPG, 1.7 APG, (ESPN 4-Star/Top 100, Rivals 4-Star/Top 150, Scout 4-Star/Top100)
Johnny McCants, 6'7, FR - 19.7 PPG, 12.2 RPG, 3.3 APG, (Rivals 3-Star)
Marlon Jones, 6'9, JR - 10.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG, (Rivals 3-Star)... I consider Jones to be a new addition because he was injured almost as the season started last year.

I think Hayford has improved Seattle's immediate prospects but it is obvious Jans has more long term talent.
