Hmmm, he said friends to Nebraska are Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State. Wonder who the schools he have talked to? I suspect the Big 12, ACC, UConn., Buffalo and maybe Stony Brook.

http://buffalonews.com/2017/06/23/ub-mak...e-reality/

Buffalo are doing an $18 million fieldhouse.

Sigh... When you begin a thread WITH THE WRONG NAME...that pretty much says it all.

Especially when TOM Osborne isn't even an obscure person.

But, he did not mentioned all names. Big 12 could be the schools he is talking about, but he could also mean the ACC schools. You got to wonder if the Mouse wants ESPN to kill the plans of the ACC Network, and several schools from there talking to the Big 10?

Buffalo and Stony Brook are AAU, and they seemed to have plans in the works in trying to improve their facilities right now.

who says what Bob Osborne heard is not important. in other news...

Super Dave Osborne predicts that Grand Canyon will leap into the realignment discussion.

ozzy Osborne predicts the Big12 will get its head bit off, and then Big 12 will start its own disfunctional reality show.

RE: Tom Osborne Talked To Other Schools Interested In Joining The Big 10
Leaving aside the ESPN/Fox rivalry and how that might impact the Big 10's ability to attract certain schools, I could definitely see Texas, OU and Kansas joining Nebraska in the Big 10 West.

The question I have is: who is #4? Could they peel Missouri away from the SEC? The SEC has no GOR, while the ACC schools are tied up through 2036.

After Missouri, the pickings get a little slim. Iowa State duplicates an already small market. Texas Tech and Oklahoma St are nowhere near Big 10 level academically. UConn is not AAU either, and the Big 10 already gets paid for NYC with Rutgers.

http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/06/20/pac-12/

Wilner talks about problems with Pac 12 model and 2018 projections:
Big 10 $51.1 million
SEC $45+ million
Big 12 $37.5 million + Tier 3
Pac 12 $32.5 million

So the Big10 is about 33% more than Big12 in 2018.

This is a disadvantage but it does not mean the Big12 can not compete.

RE: Tom Osborne Talked To Other Schools Interested In Joining The Big 10
It's pretty clear to me that Kansas wants out, and the Big 10 wants Kansas.

OU will be the key. The SEC/ESPN will attempt to protect its turf in Texas from a Big 10/Fox invasion. And so I expect the SEC to go hard after OU, by inviting both OK St and OU to make it politically difficult for OU to say "No, we want to go by ourselves to the Big 10."

If OU and Ok State go to the SEC, I can see Texas following. Particularly if Alabama/Auburn move East.

If OU goes to the Big 10 with Kansas, I can see Texas following there as well.

The big 12 is making good money so for Texas, ou and ku to bolt without taking their instate sidekick could face political headwinds. Now you can argue the big 12 is being bribed to prevent the PAC 12 from landing big time central time zone programs but that is what it is + Throw in espn not wanting Texas in the big 10. I think the only way movement happens now is if Texas stays in the big 12 post ou or ku leaving for a few years and that seems doubtful.

I've seen this happen before with Arkansas and now I'm seeing it again with Missouri. Like it or hate it, Missouri is in the SEC to stay. The SEC hasn't lost a member since Georgia Tech and Tulane left, and the SEC has improved by leaps and bounds since then. Give it up; it's not going to happen.

But, Osborne did not mention ANY names. The talking heads are the ones mentioning the names. Buffalo, UConn, and Stony Brook getting in the Big 10 is only in your world.
Quote:A slew of talking heads have been connecting some of Osborne’s old sparring partners — namely Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas — with a possible move to the Big Ten for more than a year now.

Just don't count out Tsinghua University in Beijing. High level research university and an untapped major media market.

I don't know? UCF had a piece out the other day on the 3 reasons the Big 10 should take the Knights. Seriously.

But seriously, presidents call presidents they know in other conferences when they want to test the waters. They don't call former A.D.'s and head coaches. Boosters might have spoken with Tom, or perhaps another old head coach, but that's about it. The whole process has become so legal minded of necessity that schools do not leave contact matters to anyone other than president's and school attorneys and neither would contact Osborne.

RE: Tom Osborne Talked To Other Schools Interested In Joining The Big 10
Kansas and Iowa State are probably the two schools in the Big XII with the least amount of logistical baggage were that conference to dissolve and see its members displaced. Of the "big three," KU may be the one you can get by itself without some passenger. I'm not shocked stuff like this is out there.

You know the price of OU. You know Texas isn't likely to go alone or enter as an equal, either. Kansas already put out there that State isn't stapled to them.

But, I think the Big Ten is fine. If Big XII schools are trying to burn down its own house, it's looking at the left coast for newer surroundings. Both of those places are hurting, but the PAC is about as stable as it gets next to the Big Ten.
