We all want what's best for the program but at some point self-preservation kicks in. This is assuming those players can help make a difference.
I think its a little different in basketball. How often do we redshirt a guy that would play any kind of meaningful minutes?
Not very often. But that's also why I mentioned the assumption in my post.

I don't see Green, Hueit, or Godwin getting more shots than Caver, Stith, Stith, or Porter. Do you?
None getting more shots than Caver or BJ. I think Green and Hueit both get more shots than Porter or Branden. Not sure about Godwin. By saying this I am thinking we go up and down the floor more this year than we did last year.

People are being cautious with their expectations for these players. If people had seen them play in person, they would get it. I can't wait for the reaction after they see Green and Hueitt. What a backcourt we have for the future...as long as he lets them do what they do best.

Now there's the rub. If they don't play D at his level of expectations, it won't matter how well they play O.

We are not sure of it. I just know that Hueitt was one of the best shooters in the country. I saw him in person and he was as good as advertised. A scouting service employee told me at the game that he is going to be a star at ODU. Said if he gets with a good point guard, he will flourish. I have never seen Godwin in person, though the numbers point in Hueitt's direction. Godwin is bigger but Hueitt's wingspan is incredible. I guess we'll see.

Trey Freeman played pretty poor defense. The thing is your gain on offense has to offset the defense..... which Freemans did.

People said the same things about Keenan palmore and Kah among others.
The same group of odu fans constantly hype every recruit just the way you are now and more often than not under Jones no one has lived up to the hype.
Being great in high school isn't always translatable to college, especially if the system you are going to is totally stifling and the coach berates you into playing his way instead get of adapting the system to get the maximum from the players he has
In other words, I'll believe it when I see it.
We haven't had a freshman who made a huge impact right away since who, Gerald Lee? And he was a polished 6"10 euro player.
I wouldn't go betting your life savings on odu to make the NCAA tourney this year based off of freshman coming in and leading us there.

Lee averaged 4.2 ppg as a freshman. If he's the benchmark, we've had a lot of freshmen who have had a "huge impact."

RE: Greg McClinton out for the upcoming season with ACL injury.
He was the last true freshman who had a big impact on an odu team making the NCAA tourney.
He was the only guy who really played well against Butler if I recall.
Huge may have been a little over the top but his depth was an important part of why we made the NCAA tourney that year.
Quality big man depth off the bench is a huge reason we will not make the NCAA tourney this year and most likely any time going forward under Jones for as long as that lasts because he has brought in nothing of quality in 5 years besides the son of a former player (who he hired) and a transfer from gmu.
But sure, NCAA here we come! 80+ point rpi turnaround here we come!!
