The Pirate Nation has a heavy heart today as former East Carolina safety Domonique Lennon has been shot and killed.

Lennon, 24, was shot Friday night near a restaurant in Raleigh, according to WRAL. The Suffolk, Va., native played with ECU from 2011-15. He started 12 games at safety for the Pirates in 2014 before playing in all 12 games in 2015, tallying 27 tackles.

The following is from the news station's report:

Authorities said officers responded to a shooting call behind the Bahama Breeze restaurant at 3309 Wake Forest Road at about 9:45 p.m. When they arrived, officers found Anthony Domonique Lennon, who was dead.

The parking lot at the restaurant was blocked off Friday night and at least six police cruisers could be seen across the street at Duke Medicine Plaza.

One woman who was eating in the restaurant at the time of the incident said she heard about 10 to 15 shots and saw people running in the parking lot.

Via recruit757.com, I follow the players in this area rather closely. I recall he was not that highly recruited but was really a great Pirate on the field and I heard a fine young gentleman.
