RE: #VoteRendon
Turner's batting average is impressive and if he can keep it up, he'll be in the mix for sure. I think there have been less than a dozen batters in the last 50 years or so who batted .370 or above in a season (Rod Carew, Tony Gwynn a couple of times, George Brett, Todd Helton and Nomar Garciaparra in 2000, etc.). But did any of them win the MVP? Brett might have - I'd have to look it up. But MVP usually means big power numbers and Turner's 11 homers and 39 RBI isn't that impressive, even with him missing some games. I'd be surprised though if he keeps up since he is 32 years old and he has just one .300 season in his career (.340 4 seasons ago).
It will be a fun race to watch. I'm also in the minority but I do think pitchers should get more credit in an MVP vote total.

Since AR's breakout day on April 30, when he went 6/6, 3 HR & 10 RBI, he's been hitting at a .353 clip. If he keeps up that pace through the remaining 70 regular season games, he'd end up with a BA around .333. If all of the current BA leaders in the NL end up where there averages are now, AR would finish 2nd behind Murphy for the batting title. The top 4 would all be Nats with Harper and Zim right behind AR.

Weird fact: in his 17-year career, Norm Cash batted over .286 just one season - in 1961, he led the American League with a robust .361 average (along with 41 home runs and 132 RBIs).

...add another multi-hit game and 20th jack tonight! The tear continues.
MLB tonight is showing redsox v blue jays live, and cut to Rendon's homer on the split screen during a Brock Holt at bat, followed by a number of praises for Anthony's play.

Nice to see Holt back too after his lengthy stay on DL.
I know the Nats have some injuries to their leadoff guys (Turner, Taylor - I guess Werth has been out awhile too), and Adam Lind has been big for them lately. But I don't understand why Dusty Baker keeps Rendon 6th in the lineup. I guess they just don't want to mess with success, but I still wonder if AR or perhaps Zimmerman would be better batting 2nd (keeping Harper 3rd and Murphy 4th). Luckily Lind is giving Rendon some protection with his hot bat, but if that wasn't the case, Rendon would be pitched around. I guess we're just lucky Baker hasn't destroyed Rendon's mojo - was it Janish that he destroyed as a manager with the Reds?

Yeah, that article makes a bunch of good points. Alluding to what FBO says above, and what the article implies, Dusty is really old school and generally appears to managing by gut feel. Rendon is getting less at bats than others ahead of him in the order and that's just silly, not to mention costly. It's also worth noting that Zimmerman is no longer the juggernaut he was in April and May. His numbers still look nice overall but that's just because they were so incredible the first couple of months. In fact, he's really dropped off in the last month+. July OPS: .577
