Related to the thread the other day, this writer proposes dissolving Illinois into the adjoining states. I don't know that I'd go for that if I lived in one of those states, thoughts?

Illinois is like Venezuela now, a fiscally broken state that has lost its will to live, although for the moment, we still have enough toilet paper.

But before we run out of the essentials, let's finally admit that after decade upon decade of taxing and spending and borrowing, Illinois has finally run out of other people's money.

Those "other people" include taxpayers who've abandoned the state. And now Illinois faces doomsday.

So as the politicians meet in Springfield this week for another round of posturing and gesturing and blaming, we need a plan.

I guess I simply didn't catch much of it but I didn't know things were THAT bad.

California has huge problems with the state pension fund and now the push for state funded single payer, I could see CA in the same spot soon enough.

Their bond rating is a single level above "junk". The next lowest state is like 7 levels above that.

They havent been paying lottery winners, and are about to lose the megamillions and powerball if they fail to make a $30million payment by June 30th.

This is the first state where the out of control pension plans will likely have to be seriously reworked both for now, and going forward.

And in all of this, the democratic house did not pass a budget for this year. (The senate did). There are some painful things that have to happen, and they dont want to vote to do it.

They just need a state property tax with a large homestead exemption. There is plenty of wealth in Chicago. A budget is a necessity though.

Because Chicago Public Schools didn't receive their funding from the State of Illinois they had to borrow $275 million to finish out this school year and paying Loan Shark rates of over 6%.
