RE: Horizon has offered an unnamed school... GCU?
The Horizon League currently has 9 teams and is not stable in the slightest. The Valley will expand more in the future, there's no doubt to that and they were already looking at about 3 more Horizon league teams to add. It's about as stable as the WAC. I think the problem is GCU thinking they are bigger than they are. GCU hasn't even been eligible to play in the tournament yet and they already want to bail, to the midwest no less. I get they are loaded with money but it's certainly not a good look.

So say GCU does jump ship along with NMSU, UMKC, and/or Bakersfield. What happens to the rest of us? Will the Big Sky save Seattle U, UVU, or Bakersfield? UTRGV needs to get into the Southland or ASun. Cal Baptist? Chicago State?

The $64,000 question..? Hope everyine finds a landing place.
.....Bummer if we break up as I've grown to like this group of schools.

Currently mobile....away from the house or on "the throne."

UMKC- Summit don't see a future for them anywhere else
CSUB- Big West is the only option and they have made it pretty clear they don't want to expand. So no idea. Probably screwed.
Seattle- Big Sky I guess.
Cal Baptist- Screwed probably.
Chicago State- Summit I guess.
UVU- Big Sky?

It really would be a catastrophic disaster.

UVU used to be in the Summit so theyd have a chance. UTRGV is an option too, but if football is started they will be a shoe in for Southland. I think if the Big Sky does want a 12th OLY school its either SU or Bakersfield. Really doubt Weber wants to add UVU

NMSU will try like hell to get in the Horizon. CSUB will get super serious with UCSD about the Big West. After that it's bleak. Chicago State will likely head to the Chicagoland (NAIA/D-II) where I think they are headed anyway. Cal Baptist may get buyers remorse and u-turn to remain in D-II, especially is NMSU and CSUB are successful.

I don't see any current options for SU, UVU, UTRGV or even UMKC.

By adding GCU the Horizon becomes a lot more stable. Had they added one of the other schools UIC and Milwaukee would be working on exit plans, possibly another school. But this add makes the highest value schools much happier with the conference. It means a higher caliber school can be targeted next round. Your flight risk is rarely the bottom schools, but your highest value. GCU add was aimed at placating those schools.

Look we don't know if NMSU can still get into the Horizon. They might be stuck in the WAC, their chance having passed already. CSUB may have the best opportunity to exit next.

But things are likely to shake up more. The Horizon eventual plan is 16 schools. That could hit several conferences including the Summit (Denver, or NDSU and SDSU as a pair), OVC (Murray State, even Belmont), SLC (SF Austin), Big South (Liberty) or WAC (NMSU). This is bound to shake open some slots.

Sleepless nights ahead.

Well Denver doesn't like GCU's model, so that means they won't be joining the Horizon if GCU does.

Why would the Horizon just add GCU though? Either way, they want to be at 12-14. Or even 16 like you said. So thats clearly going to involve at least Fort Wayne, which UMKC is the obvious replacement in the Summit. Unless they left TSL burning bridges.

I dont see how theres anyway UMKC doesnt leave, unless THL stays at 10 with just GCU
