RE: Horizon has offered an unnamed school... GCU?
I find it odd. NMSUhas contact with THL earlier this year. Now, THL (supposedly) offers GCU and suggests that a travel partner is a good possibility. Wouldnt it make more sense to say its TWO schools?
Or did the NMSU investigate and decide it easnt worth the $$$.

Now, I've been following a Twitter conversation with a reporter, Stu, and Sparty. They kind of suggest a CSUB/UCSD to the BW may be the driver behind this, from how im reading it.
Wild stuff....if in fact, it IS even GCU.

Currently mobile....away from the house or on "the throne."

I checked the Indiana laws on public meetings, and the transition of Fort Wayne. It would be an incredible feat to pull a conference change at this time, or frankly in the next two years. They need two board approvals, revision of the fee structure, and more change conferences.

SIU-E is confirmed out and so are RMU and IUPUI (no baseball).

Only one candidate left standing, Grand Canyon. Just one question, are they joining immediately in 2017-18 or in 2018-19?

Going to be pretty pissed if we're off to the California Bus League.

If this were the HL of old then I'd applaud a potential move. With the current HL makeup, I think the WAC is not only better but has more potential.

Horizon League is interested in both NMSU and GCU, but both would have to join together for it to happen. I believe that is what the Horizon League told New Mexico State. And it was reported by a NMSU fan on our sports forum that GCU has no interest in joining the Horizon.

If NMSU were to join, then definitely it would make a little more sense. Though I don't think it'd be a positive move for either program.
I don't see the current makeup better than the current WAC. And the future is promising in the WAC with much better travel destinations than the HL.

NMSU was timid and feeling it out.

GCU was direct and decisive.

NMSU will go back and be more decisive. LeCrone values relevance over footprint. Adding GCU to his conference opens the door to target schools like NMSU, SFA, Murray St, Belmont, and Liberty, maybe even Denver.

If LeCrone let them add any of those hyphenated schools (PFW or SIUE or IUPUI) or 'so what' RMU, he would have relegated the Horizon to the forever irrelevant bottom feeder conferences. And UWM and UIC would be looking for the exit tomorrow.

NMSU could be keeping tighter lips on it than people around GCU

Even with adding a travel partner it's still a horrendous idea that will not end pretty. I have no idea what they are thinking. People make fun of the WAC for geography but two far west teams playing in the midwest is even more bizarre and bound to fail.

I ont see it as a long term deal for GCU if they go or for any western school but strength in number and more stability is something that everyone wants. Does a Green Bay make ppl go crazy when it comes to OLY sports? No but everyone knows they aren't a flight risk. Everyone in the WAC is a flight risk for one reason or another some good some bad. Cant fault GCU trying to leave before others do.
