Probably also worth noting:

while Valpo has varsity teams in all 9 men's Horizon sports and all 10 women's Horizon sports, Fort Wayne only has 5 varsity men's sports (missing swimming, tennis, and indoor/outdoor track) and 8 varsity women's sports (missing swimming and tennis).

Wonder if they would have agreed to add any of those sports as part of a Horizon invitation?

OTOH, GCU does have all 9 and 10 sports already ...

No board meetings for SIU trustees or Purdue regents. Budgetary constraints and exit fees from OVC ($500K per Murray State comments) and tSL ($1M). GCU athletic budgets are triple (!) these two schools, is in a major market, has big name coaches, and willing to pay travel fee. Phoenix airport makes GCU easy to reach, no real time difference in travel.

Also the Horizon needs a big splash name to replace Valparaiso. Only Grand Canyon brings that.

No contest. Dollars to doughnuts it's GCU.

I will grant you the $1M exit fee from Summit is not insignificant.

That alone doesn't prove anything, but it's certainly something to consider.

You, I, and everyone else have no proof of anything. So it's bad form on your part to come off like you know something as a fact. You know nothing, just as everyone else knows nothing, at this point.

We will see ....

I'll say it is pretty bad for GCU to abandon the WAC like that. Especially how it is becoming a much better conference than expected...in the top half of all the conferences.

Would also say that University of Illinois board of directors would look very bad sullying one of their universities with a for-profit "school" like GCU.

Same for Univ of Wisconsin board, with two schools in the Horizon.

Why would they care about that? ALL public schools are for profit. Some make more money than others! The B1G makes a boat load of money and I believe could care less about GCU, Liberty or any other "for profit" school. Why would they? Just asking. Seriously?

Logic says Ft. Wayne. Problem is conference changes sometimes leave out logic.

Good attempt at framing what you want to happen in the best possible light. But you know darn well that you don't have a leg to stand on.

None of the schools in the Big Ten, or the schools in the Horizon League, are for-profit organizations.

Athletic conference association is by far the most public of associations, for universities. Whatever headlines GCU makes for being a Christian institution, a for-profit institution, etc. will be exactly reflected upon their Horizon colleagues.

If the Horizon wants GCU, it might as well make a play for NMSU too.

Is Bison1660 on iHeart radio? What are the call letters and city?

Can't blame them for exploring their options.

*IF* it is Fort Wayne, then the Summit is down to 5 in baseball and 6 in men's soccer (E ILL affiliate), as those are the only sports that Fort Wayne sponsors that UND doesn't sponsor.

Adding N Colorado might be a nice move, if they can pull it off. Would add another baseball team, and the MVFC should have room for them since adding UND gives it an odd number of members.

Not on iHeart radio. Works live after downloading the app.

Fort Wayne is building a new downtown arena that is perfectly sized for the future PUFW.

IPFW is the logical travel partner for Ill-Chi now.

The Horizon only seems concerned about mbb and baseball, which IPFW has covered.

SIU-E just got in the MAC for men's soccer and wouldn't want to deal with entry and exit fees with Illinois' funding up in the air.

GCU and NMSU would almost have to be a tandem.

Right ... only thing is that $1M exit fee from Summit.

But, you figure payment over 10 years ... might come out even just on travel savings alone, for Fort Wayne.

And that new arena in Fort Wayne does look very nice. Similar to NKU's newish arena. And we know how that turned out!

More from Tony Paul: It isn't SIUE.

Everything points to Grand Canyon, not PUFW.

WAC should invite West Texas A&M right now. Their football could be an affiliate to the Big Sky or Southland. New Mexico State could play H/H games with them every year in football.
