The Horizon will move early on Robert Morris to give them an opportunity to place their football and lacrosse teams for the next year. IPFW will be taken too, as both have new arenas coming aboard.

Then the fun starts for the Summit.

Link where Fort Wayne is planning a new stadium?

Lol, NoDak has no link, he never has a link to his crazy ideas. But he did see some insiders communicating on a message board about it or perhaps heard a very obscure radio interview only available on Grand Forks Radio but unfortunely it isn't available via podcast. When it is time for the info to go public you will hear it. Until then, you will have to just believe him.

NoDaks theories and wishes are sometimes good ideas but they are so far from reality or fact that David St looks like the Pope in comparison.

He didn't say "stadium", he said "arena".

Plans for a new arena in Fort Wayne have been in the works for some time, although the final decision to proceed has not been made. Here's a recent article on the subject:

Downtown Fort Wayne

WAR Memorial is simply too big and too old with not enough suites while IPFW's gym on campus is too small. When the new arena is approved, IPFW is in the Horizon along with RMU.

The city of Fort Wayne is planning a new arena, downtown. Like HM said, this has been known for a while.

Doesn't mean Fort Wayne Mastadons college basketball teams are guaranteed to play there, but they likely could play there.

Well ...... there is a bit of hand waiving going on there, my guess mixing information between the Bloomington and Indy campuses. The main campus is in Bloomington, and is a Big Ten school, but the medical school, teaching hospital, and health science research facilities are in Indy. In any case, the professors are employed by IU.

It's pretty much exactly the same as Illinois and UIC.

The 20 game schedule being considered came from a person with close ties to Weber State's Athletic department. If anyone would oppose, you'd think it'd be Weber.

Note they did play at Stanford and BYU. The pre-conference tournament they played in got them Iona and UC Davis. They had only 4 home OOC games: Antelope Valley, West Coast Baptist, Utah Valley and Denver

This year Black Hills State, Presentation College, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Pepperdine are their OOC home games. They do play at Fresno State and will at least play BYU in the beehive classic. Not a schedule to get improved RPI.

The reality is the Big Sky is a one bid conference with RPI in the toilet. None higher than 144 (3 below 300, 9 of 12 below 200).
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketba...rence/BSKY
It is one of the lower ranked conferences in RPI and one game wont change that
http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2017/conferencerpi

Things may well look different to ADs than they did half a decade ago when Fullerton was selling his vision. What I am seeing is a big push toward cohesion and building rivalries. An extra home game against Montana State rather than Presentation College will get a bigger gate. We may only be talking $50-100K on the bottom line, but it matters at this level.

We will see what happens. There is not a Steve Fisher type coach in the Big Sky who was playing a much higher National schedule and was asking to go down to 16 games so he could play another Maui Classic type tournament against the Michigan State and Kansas type opponents. You are talking about swapping out Iona and Presentation College here.

Pretty much, but not exactly. The Medical School is UIC's, BUT the UIUC campus wants to rebrand it as theirs. There is quite a bit of infighting, competitiveness and even a bit of jealousy between campuses. The Board of Trustees is made up mostly of UIUC grads who of course would like things in favor of UIUC. The Board has put the cabosh on UIC having its own Law School while giving the go ahead for the Urbana campus to have their own Medical School. UIC, once upon a time, was in preliminary talks with the John Marshall Law School in downtown Chicago to become a part of UIC, but the Board of Dickheads stopped that!

The BOT makes sure that UIC only goes so far because we have great academics, are in a big metropolitan area and if allowed to, could conceivably be on par with the Urbana-Champaign campus (except for having football as a sport).

Yeah I have no idea why some state's flagships decided to build up comprehensive universities around separate medical campuses in the urban areas, when they were displaced from the main campus, completely with their own undergraduate student bodies.

Another great example of this is Alabama, where UAB is its own school separate from Tuscaloosa, and has almost all of the major research since all the medical campus is in B'ham.

A different model is for the separate campus just to be a graduate/professional campus. Examples of these are UCSF, pretty sure U Maryland Baltimore as well.

Looks like Robert Morris is having difficulty getting construction of their new arena to start. The 2019 conference season for the Horizon now may be iffy.

Article seems to indicate that the new rec center will be online by this fall, then the old arena can be knocked down, and then the new arena construction can commence. Probably a reasonable guess that it will be ready for 2019-20 season, rather than the season before.
