Memphis hiring former LSU interim HC Butch Pierre as recruiting coordinator.
Smart move by Tubby as Butch Pierre recruited guys like Marcus Smart, Le’Bryan Nash, Tyrus Thomas and Glen Davis. He will be on staff and not an Asst Coach so he can work with HS coaches, parents, set up visits...he just can't recruit off campus.

he was with Gottfried at NCSU last season...NCSU still owes him 410k per his contract...so Memphis will pay him 120k and NCSU will pay him 410k.
it's a good deal for both parties...not so much for NSCU
Quote:Longtime assistant coach Butch Pierre has emerged as “the leading candidate” to fill the vacant staff position within the Memphis men’s basketball program and his hiring could become official as soon as next week, according to an athletic department official with direct knowledge of the situation.
Pierre, an assistant coach at North Carolina State this past season, would take over the spot vacated by former director of player personnel Keelon Lawson, who left Memphis when his sons, Dedric and K.J., elected to transfer to Kansas in April...
Smith said in April he is considering changing Lawson’s director of player personnel role into a recruiting coordinator position going forward. That would mean Pierre could interact with high school and grassroots basketball coaches, but he would not be able to contact recruits off-campus.
Pierre made $410,000 at North Carolina State last season and his contract had one year remaining on it when Gottfried got fired, according to the Raleigh News and Observer. North Carolina State would still owe Pierre the difference in salary if he were to get a new job this season.
Lawson earned $120,000 last year as director of player personnel at Memphis.
