Just playing devil's advocate: how much lower would the field need to be in order to expand the stands over where the track is now? Ten feet?

There are streams as shallow as 4-5 feet under KBS. Stand by one of the drainage areas and you can hear water running. One stream comes out of the hill just to the left of the West Stands and runs completely under the field. It is all piped down to the Duck Pond. The main reason artificial turf was put down is because the field in old Conrad Stadium stayed wet & soggy. If it rained at all the place turned into a swamp.

Hmmmmm...I wonder if we could bottle that water and sell it. We'd make millions. COGS

I think you're on to something! I'm sure it is as pure of spring water as you can find. Just run a pipe into the rocks where it's coming from and sell it at games. Could market it as bottled at the source, The Official Water of The Rock. No truer advertising slogan has ever been devised. Heck, we could even build a real waterfall in that corner of KBS!

I'd sure like to see it one day. Who needs P5 television money when you have clear gold?

The school has to replace the sod every 2-3 years at Duck Pond Field because once it's water-logged (snow melting, big event, etc) it stays that way.

So, if the field indeed will never be lowered, does anything change when/if the track is removed? An alternative idea I've read is to shift the field closer to the west stands/student section. The problem with that is that this brand spanking new multi-million dollar video board would be way off center. The East stands also would have to be rebuilt completely, basically built on top of where the track is now.

So what changes to the field should would expect in a post-track Kidd Brewer Stadium?

Building a north endzone complex (premium sitting mostly) and regrade the hill to bring it closer.

There is a wait list for premium seating, not close to maxing out season tickets as a percentage of regular seating. Given the size of our stadium 65% or more should be season ticket holders.

Longer term tear down lower levels of both sides and bring them closer to the field over two years.

Had this same discussion with some folks in the Athletics Center last week. Moving the field over is no longer an option. The lower sections on the East Side are crumbling and something has to be done. My fantasy plan would be to take down the upper East stands and rebuild them as one continuous section. Over the lower section landing somewhere about midway on the track. Build South (bank) seating up close to the endzone. Eventually take down the upper West stands and mirror the East side. KBS is in one of the best settings in college football. We just need the quality of the facility to match it.

Hopefully, the thought of ever building down in Boone, versus up should be put to bed for eternity. The playing field should never move. As Saint mentioned earlier. We need a complete rehaul of the lower stands on each side, as soon as the track is moved, if it ever is. The decision makers are still fighting about what to do with old HS property and everyone wants a piece of it.

RE: New App State video board(s)
When TXST did their stadium expansion, they were unable to lower the field due to similar issues. The east and west stands are still further back from the field because of the track. The new north seating was built closer to the field. Another issue you can run into is building codes. The new portion of Bobcat Stadium doesn't actually touch the old part. There is a very small gap. If they touched, the old part would have to be brought up to code. I could see redoing their stadium in a similar way to TXST. I wish the stadium didn't look patchwork at times but it is a nice stadium and I think it is the best way to do it without building a new one from scratch or tearing down and rebuilding each side at a high cost.

Is the gap so small as to be able to walk from the new to the old and not notice anything except for maybe what appears to be an expansion area for temperature changes?

Yes. I don't notice it walking the concourse. It is more noticeable in the stands. The old "wall" from the north end of the east and west stands is still there. So it you are walking along the seats and want to go to the new section you have to step over.

Same for the endzone seating at ECU that was put up a few years back.

Same issue at Bobby Dodd Stadium. The I believe four sections of stands are independent of each other.

The Athletic department had a Twitter vote this weekend on the Block A that'll go on top of the scoreboard RT for Black, Like for White. Over 1,600 people voted and by a 1,100-500 vote, it'll be white.
