It's the Tribune - I'm surprised anyone there even knows NIU exists.

I don't get the joke here. Why is NIU a bad dog? I actually like the comic. "Northern Illinois" is very prominently displayed. It could spark interest in the university. It has been said that there is really no bad press. "The only thing worse than being talked about..."

Beg to differ. Anytime anything bad happens at NIU, the Trib makes a big splash out of it.

RE: Great branding
I haven't picked up a Chicago Tribune or visited their website in 15 years and I am doing great. I can't believe people still read that tripe.

Are you serious? The lid entitled "ethics" is on the ground to the left and the dog has obviously turned the contents into garbage strewn about. If you like NIU being portrayed for bad behavior and think that is going to "spark interest in the university," then the joke isn't all you don't understand. The only fools who believe "that there is really no bad press" are individuals who don't appreciate how hard it is to get good press.

True.

First NIU007 posts that he's "surprised anyone (at the Trib) even knows NIU exists, but then he contradicts himself by agreeing with murph83 that "anytime anything bad happens at NIU, the Trib makes a big splash out of it."
And yet the Dog Pound regularly posts links to features done on NIU athletes (Ally Lehman is the most recent example). Sorry but Trib coverage of all college athletics is down from what it once was; be just a little bit objective and acknowledge even the vaunted Irish didn't get the same type of worshipful write-ups they had in the past.
Then prairiedawg insists he hasn't visited (Trib) website in 15 years and is doing great...can't believe people still read that tripe." So where are you getting your news, sports and other information? Just because you've chosen to be that cheap and close-minded doesn't mean it's "tripe," something more commonly thought of as alternative facts distributed by blogs and biased websites.
Can't imagine why our alumni associated wasted all that money on full page ads instead of asking prairiedawg what he has bookmarked?
