Wink OT-EMU's Rynearson Remodel
Eastern Michigan is updating Rynearson Football Stadium.

The main item of the project is to remove the urinals and replace with new ones.

I guess they deteriorated from lack of use......
1. no one attends games to use them.
2. those that do attend pee over the wall onto the track in front of the visiting cheerleaders.........

RE: OT-EMU's Rynearson Remodel
I would think they could get some local high school industrial arts class (if that is still offered in HS) to do that work. Would be a win-win.

I'm wondering how those could be worn out in such a short time. They put in enough to satisfy a full house, and they rarely fill it to 1/4 of it's capacity - and maybe only 15% on the visitor's side.

Cheap beer.

High school industrial arts would work but I'd be going to the art school, giving them some basic must meet specifications so that the plumbing would match and say, sculpt or mold up some individual urinals.

Much more fun. UT should have at least one such building or at least one restroom per sex (how many is there these days?) on campus.

Might have to put a censor threat on some, those art students often don't have a sense of decency norms.

In case anyone is interested in all the plans: http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/mi.../98533930/ Includes removing the track from the football stadium. So, I guess there will just be an open field between the stands and the playing field now? Painted grey?

The student government is already demanding no school funds be spent on the project.

They'd be historically more productive to keep the track and remove the football field.

Dear Toledo Fans,
You must be very worried that Eastern is making a comeback in their football team and facilities. The Free Press article quoted, is written by Mr. Jesse who is no friend of Eastern athletics. I find it interesting that MAC members complain if certain schools don't have better facilities, and then when they go in that direction, everything is bad ,or half-baked, or whatever. You can't have it both ways. Learn to live with it, gentlemen. Let's see what the future brings.

I actually enjoy EMU's stadium. Good sight lines, the connection to the HOF (with a LOT of notable members) and, at the games I've attended) some good tailgating and atmosphere for a game that only draws 10,000 because Toledo is the opponent. I'd love to see what a good product would do to interest. Maybe we find out this year.

As a contractor I saw this project advertised on the Ohio Builders Exchange asking for bids.
I was making fun of the fact that highlighted feature of the project advertisement that the replacement of the urinals.
Eastern getting new urinals doesn't make me jealous at all. I'm just wondering how the urinals got worn out?????

Dear Terry,
If "worn out" was the phrase used, it is obviously wrong. I have no idea what would be done in the restrooms, other than to change to individual urinals, or stainless steel troughs, or what ever new technology may be out there.

I think Eastern should put cushioned seats in along with seat warmers. They should have a refreshment stand at every walkway, and multiple Big Screen scoreboards. I think they should add belted walkways to and from all parking lots. Hell no I'm not jealous of any program that wants to invest in it's self. Even if they don't have good teams. And private urinals for those modest fans.

Here's a hint for EMU. When you play Toledo on homecoming - why not plan for the traffic and parking? Why lock the gate on the northeast corner and force all those that sat in the traffic while they scrambled to open other lots - to then have to walk all the way around to the front of the stadium - then have 1 ticket booth open for walk up ticket sales? It was pretty obvious EMU was expecting it's normal show of about 7,000 fans for the game and forced a number of fans to miss the entire first quarter because they couldn't handle the additional volume of fans. Otherwise known as a cluster----.

Not at all, would welcome it. I've long chastised Ypsi for not seeing the gem in their midst but ultimately, we're obligated to be snide and make jokes about you. It's a Toledo fan board, not an EMU fan board. We don't like birds.

Good luck with the urinals.

Wish we'd get new urinals to replace our pee troughs.

Our outdated pee troughs are tradition though! I've been using them since I could just stand tall enough to reach.

We were backed up for a good 20-25 minutes waiting just to park at a EMU home game. Ridiculous. Sure it was the biggest crowd I've ever seen there but the stadium was still more than half empty. Horrible parking management...but I'll admit it was nice to actually see a tailgating scene.

So glad you weren't using them before that.
