There's no real benefit to it. There is virtually no way it will sell out. While many have bought season tickets as a show of support, including myself, they could easily just show up and pretty much sit where they want to. A newer, smaller stadium (downtown or OCS) would obviously make season tickets more desirable. In UAB's case tickets-sold is a much better barometer for all attendance-related questions...

As long as you can buy a General Admission ticket "at the door" or use a free city purchased ticket when you arrive, and you can sit anywhere in the first 30 rows of Sec 10 & 11 in the west stand (50 yd line area), there is little incentive to buy season tickets unless you just want to make a fan support statement.

The size of Legion Field is a factor, but the best seats in both stands remain reserved for most of the 1600 folks who are apparently not interested in UAB football. On game day, these seats are used on a first come-first served basis no matter how they got their tickets.

Yes legion field in general is a factor, i would think we could double or triple those numbers if we were getting ready to move into a new stadium either on campus or even a new one across town. .

If it is a terrible number, why would you put it on a public message board, given the situation. A perception of low interest affects recruiting, further sales etc.

Hmmmmmmm, 0 Rep points and you have the inside track to "the right source"?? Just pondering where you're coming from with this info and whats your purpose in laying it out here.

Rep points mean nothing. I'm sure he is well placed to get the number, but it makes no sense to publicize a bad number.

Anything under 5k is disappointing. Especially considering all the advertising we've done lately.

I would wait until the final numbers are in before passing judgment. Many have not purchased yet and these numbers do not reflect most of the cooperate season tickets that count as well. I personally would not have posted those numbers as stated above. It does no good.

Many companies' fiscal year is from July-June so, perhaps(hopefully), corporate ticket purchases will pick up substantially starting in July...

Once we start winning, the sales will take care of themselves anyway. The product on the field is going to be fun to watch!

lol at your logic of rep points being the justification of having an "inside track". I didnt think it took rep points on a message board to know people within an athletic department. I'm sorry for being negative and throwing a terrible number out there, i honestly thought people wanted to know. Don't worry though, I'll find the person with the highest rep points next time and run all my posts through them before posting.

It has been true that the best marketing strategy for UAB football is consistent winning, and UAB football has never been able to use it. With the present staff and new facilities, UAB football has its best chance ever to try it out.

The real question now is which one of the athletic department sources is lying. We have two statements that run counter to each other, both being attributed to inside sources....3,500? or double the previous record number of season tickets?

Both statements can not be true, so someone has to be lying.

The city of Bham's FY is July to June. The budget probably won't be done by then. Their contribution to UAB football results in a very large number of season tickets. Don't know if that is part of the tally or not..

RE: SEASON TICKETS SOLD?
I think the issue is that we need to define what we are talking about. Are we talking about number of fans purchasing season tickets? If so that number has traditionally been very low, embarrassing low.

If you want to talk about number of season tickets sold, using any definition of season ticket, then that number can literally be anything UAB wants it to be, and as such is meaningless.

If you want to define season ticket as "Number of tickets sold at the price points listed on the sale sheet" Which in my opinion is the most intellectually honest way to do it, then that 3500 number sounds very realistic, and would probably be more than double than we have sold before in any previous season.

Screw the number. If you don't have season tickets, buy them before the season starts. Sooner the better.

We will report season tickets like everyone else. From individual to corporate. If UAT and Auburn and every other Power team can do it so can we and they all mean something. One of the companies I work for purchased 50 season tickets from Auburn and I guarantee you those counted.

RE: SEASON TICKETS SOLD?
The reason why it's important to know how many actual fans we have buying season tickets is that it is by far the most reliable indicator of the long term health of our football program (I would love to have the numbers broken down so that we could tell things like how many recent alumni have purchased season tickets, how many people have purchased season tickets for the first time, etc.)

The fans buying season tickets care. We are the ones who are going to be bringing friends and family who would otherwise not become fans. We are the ones who are going to bring kids into the fold, kids who will bring their friends to the games when they get older. Kids who will then someday bring their kids into the fold. It's how you grow a fanbase.

This isn't a pissing contest where we are trying to say "Look our number is bigger than yours!" You can accomplish that by giving 500 "season tickets" to the city, 500 to BBVA, 500 to XYZ corporation and inflate your season ticket number to your hearts desire, but only a small percentage of those tickets will be used each week, and a much smaller percentage still will result in the kind of life long commitment to the team like I mentioned above.

RE: SEASON TICKETS SOLD?
I think the most important number for Season Tickets Sold will actually be NEXT season.

We are still an "unknown" product, What we do THIS season will make or break next season....and beyond.
