In 2012, when this bowl was the Fight Hunger Bowl, Navy ASU drew 34,172. Navy sold 10,000 from their allotment; ASU sold 5,000.

In 2004, when this bowl was the Emerald Bowl, attendance was 28,856. Navy sold 18,000 through the NAAA ticket office and the bowl executive director "credited Navy with 22,000"

Perform on the field and in ticket sales and quit complaining

A bowl game like this is a made-for-television event. It is not designed for fans or to even have fans attend.

Should have never left San Francisco. Nobody wants to go to San Jose, even 49ers fans.

Seriously, wasn't it played at AT&T?

Yes, both the Navy games before it was moved to the new 49ers stadium..

Both teams sidelines on one side of the field.

You can see it in the way high stock players skip out on these meaningless bowls. The entire thing is inconvenient to the fanbase, the players, and the administrations, running on an outdated system that relied on the rarity of the bowls to drive demand.

I think the idea of individual exhibitions need to be done away with, and put something on the line.
  • Expand the CFP to 8 teams.
  • Do away with single game, single location bowl games, and reorganize them into NIT type CFP formats. I.e. 5 to 7 brackets of 8 teams, meeting at a single location, seeded by region and final ranking.
  • Only teams with 7 wins or more are eligible. FCS games no longer count towards win total.
  • Teams with 6 wins are eligible, only to fill out the final bracket. A bracket may not contain more than 3, 6 win teams, and ordered by APR.

Instead of traveling to Idaho or Detroit or New York or the Bahamas for two teams in a bowl game, you now have 8 fanbases in a region and more interest to see the local game as teams fight for one trophy of their NIT bowl playoff. You can cycle the locations between Houston, Dallas, San Diego, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, and any other major metro willing to put in the investment. Places easy to get to and capable of handling the tourist load.

It also creates more games. With 40 bowl games, you have 41 games (CFP). With 7 playoff formats you have 49 games (each 8 team bracket creates 7 games) with higher value and interest, all in the same location, easing the burden for travelling fans and cities alike.

I like the idea the ACC and Sunbelt floated during the last CFP negotiations. They had the idea of the top 20 teams left after the 4 playoff participants were named being placed in a pool and assigned to bowls by the selection committee based on geography. That would have meant great matchups between ranked teams with fanbases getting easy cheap travel to nearby locations Good games that are nearby---now that's a common sense solution.

I like that idea a lot.

Does that make it more palatable?

Not sure how anyone could want LESS college football. I love a game on every day during the holidays... and the smaller bowls sometimes (often) bring the most exciting games...

To the players its a big deal. Fans should support the players with as much enthusiasm.

I don't disagree with you, Bull... but as someone above mentioned, sending a 5-7 team bowling shouldn't be allowed and I 100% agree.

I would never be for "less" CFB being played regardless of the record or circumstance. TBH I wouldn't mind seeing all the teams continue practicing during bowl season regardless of record.

Option 2: An extra spring practice or just an extra home or away contest scheduled against someone close not in a bowl. Why not?

More CFB rather than less is a good thing imo.

Ain't just the P5. NORTH TEXAS WENT 5-7 AND WENT TO A BOWL.

THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY BOWLS NOW. They need to fold a dozen of them. This needs to happen, even if it costs my beloved ponies a bowl this year. It's becoming a joke and who the HELL wants to go to the Foster's Farm Bowl?? Doesn't even sound fun.

They need to fold more than that. They need to get it down to about the top 30 teams outside the CFP. So CFP plus 15 bowls. That should cover the top 25, along with a few "also receiving votes" teams.

A conference like ours would like have 1 or 2 teams get in. Conference champion, and maybe 30

I'd be happy with maybe reducing the number from 78 down to 64 teams.

64 exactly matches the # of P5 schools, so that would work. All p5 go regardless of record. G4 gets acess spot n spot for its champs..or in case of access provider #2

Now on a more honest note. Dropping 2 to 5 games should do the trick. No more 5-7 teams ever. and no 6-6 G5 most years..

If they trim down the bowls as a whole, they'll get rid of everything except p5 v p5.

Just scrap all the bowls and hold a real playoff. 10 autobids and 6 at large.
