Condition of the wounded
People are forgetting Scalise wasn't the only one shot.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/poli...102883022/

Matt Mika was shot several times in the chest and remains in critical condition requiring more surgery. He was a lobbyist for Tyson Foods who was a volunteer coach.

David Bailey and Crystal Griner were the police officers and are doing good. Bailey was treated and released. Griner got shot in the ankle and was still in the hospital as last reported.

Scalise still critical

RE: Condition of the wounded
Representative Rogers Williams simply sprained his ankle. Zack Barth, his aide, a 2015 Texas grad, was grazed by a bullet in the leg but is doing well.

RE: Condition of the wounded
David Bailey and Crystal Griner are Capitol Police Special Agents on Protective Duty.

Now's a good as place as any, I imagine.

Years ago when I worked for Congress I worked for now disgraced Speaker Denny Hastert. (I've also worked for disgraced Illinois Gov. George Ryan. WTF. No wonder I left politics.)

While I worked with Denny I had consistent interactions with Capitol Police officers and Special Agents, included spending many long and stupidly boring hours with them at campaign and work events. I got to know the Special Agents very well, or at least as well as a mid-20 something political hack could get to know professional federal law enforcement officers I guess.

Every single action, every single word, every single minute of advance work was of the highest quality. Only time I ever saw any of them let their guard down in the slightest would be when we where at the Hastert's relatively private residence in a smaller Illinois town and Denny's wife Jean would bring coffee or lemonade out to the agents in their Tahoes and Suburbans. Even then it was at 99.99% radar up.

Not sure where I am going with this, but it's a good reminder sometimes of the realities of police work; 99% boredom, 1% near death experience.

RE: Condition of the wounded
Both of these gentlemen have a long road back to recovery. Remains to be seen if there will be any permanent disabilities. From a description I read earlier today regarding Scalise, the bullet shattered his hip, broke a number of bones and ripped through some internal organs. He is facing multiple surgeries. Godspeed to both of these patriots.
