Non-conference opportunities
If this conference is going to move up then we need for each other to capitalize on the non-conference opportunities and there looks to be more than a few of them this season.

Houston again has the chance to be the standard bearer with games against two strong P5 programs that are down - Texas Tech is a mess right now with only WR's being a strength and Arizona seems to have stagnated. I believe the Cougars can beat both.

Memphis continues it's recent smart and opportunistic home scheduling with UCLA coming to town. UCLA is picked by many to be second in their division this year but I can totally see Memphis winning this game the Bruins are going to be reliant on a couple of true freshmen on defense in order to keep Memphis from scoring.

UConn also has a couple of beatable programs on the schedule; both Virginia and BC are picked at the bottom of their respective divisions and the Huskies beat the Cavs last year.

Same thing with UCF and their games against Ga Tech and Maryland; totally winnable. Tech will be a bigger challenge while I expect the Knights to beat Maryland for some payback after last year.

USF should whip Illinois.

Tulsa at Oklahoma State and SMU at TCU are a couple of games where the AAC team should be the underdog but within striking distance.

I miss any?

EDIT: Tulane's gonna kill Oklahoma. Heard it here first.

It would sure be awesome if we upset OSU. We'll see what happens though.

As long as SMU has Courtland Sutton you are within striking distance of TCU, our secondary can never cover that guy.

I wouldn't be surprised if UConn went 3-0 or 0-3 versus UVA, Mizzou, and BC.

Non-conference opportunities
Cincinnati at Michigan. Probably a long shot, but we are catching them early after they have lost a lot of last year's talent.

Because of their rich tradition Navy always plays a couple of elite P5 programs.

ECU plays Virginia Tech in Greenville, and West Virginia in Morgantown.

I think VT is vulnerable. WVU will be tough. But ECU is typically good for at least one good OOC win per season, regardless of how conference play goes.

Yeah, I wanted to pick Cincy over UM and Navy over ND, not to mention ECU always manages to pull an upset - can they do it this year over West Virginia? But I tend to think the three AAC schools lost too much to be a threat. I hope I'm wrong.

As usual, ECU has prominent OOC home games. Virginia Tech and BYU and @ West Virginia.

VT win is possible. RS Freshman QB, one good WR, meh at RB. Their secondary is their best asset. If we can keep turnovers under control, I think we can beat them in G-Vegas.

Not anymore. ND will always be on the schedule but our OOC is Army, AirForce, ND, and FCS / G5 for the foreseeable future.

Damnit! I thought this was gonna be about hoops. I only care if we beat the hated froggies in football. Then get me to November and let's tip off the season.
