RE: Hurd is...
Hurd doesn't get enough credit for saving the WAC and actually producing a much better quality conference than most thought

Hurd didn't save the WAC, NMSU's former president did. She spent more time saving the WAC than doing the job she was paid to do. Hurd needed a lot of guidance at that time. He was only interim comish and from what I hear was entertaining other jobs.

We can set Hurd's retirement then at 67 in two years instead of 65 this year. Maximum Soc Sec benefit

Hurd does deserve a lot of credit, but the key was that NMSU never left. That helped give the WAC some credibility. Without NMSU, I don't think UMKC joins. Adding GCU was not easy at the time. That may have cost them Denver.

Losing seven schools in one season and replacing them with six new ones the next season is a process most veteran commissioners will never experience. I thought Hurd came through it very well.

The WAC could be a lot worse off...in fact it shouldn't even exist...and now the WAC is on the rise. Give credit where it's due.

I didnt think the WAC would still have an auto bid by now honestly. Thought it was quickly headed to a 4 or 5-member "Great West 2.0"

Agree with both above posts. In the last year, i went from being pretty critical of Hurd to actually appreciating how this conference rose dangling just above the fire. What is actually credited to who, I just chalk it up go a group effort amongst the conference office and the member institutions.

Currently mobile....away from the house or on "the throne."

Moving forward, expansion and a tv agreement would really solidify the league.

Good for him to extend the contract.
Hopefully, he'll get the WAC to where losing NMSU won't be a big deal.

Have to think now with the Sinclair/Tribune merger, that the WAC we'll being more OTA games on the STADIUM network since the Tribune stations fills in a lot of the WAC footprint that was missing with the Sinclair stations.
