Kenan Stadium conversion
Two sections at Kenan have been converted for this season with new seats. This new style (to Kenan) seats are chair back seats that are 22" wide. The results are a reduction in capacity for the two sections from 2,012 to 1,594 a reduction of 20.8%. Of course the pricing went up to compensate for the seating reduction, but this represents a trend in stadium/arena seating to give the patrons better and more comfortable seating even if it means seating capacity reduction.
The seating capacity at Kenan was 63,000 before the conversion started

TCUs stadium definitely followed that model when renovated/re-built a few years ago. The capacity is about the same or a few thousand less than the old Amon Carter Stadium but the physical structure itself is much larger with both more amenities and more room in the seating.

RE: Kenan Stadium conversion
this is long overdue. Kenan needs capacity in the 53-55 thousand range IMO. my guess is they add seats to the entire lower bowl& leave the upper decks alone until phase 3 stadium updates. from what i understand the AD has sold the majority of these seats more than double the asking price last year

I'm not sure about the 55k. UNC can sell out 80k when they are playing well.

I know all the seats can't be converted but any estimates on final capacity? (After all conversions are done)

What do you base that on? In their 11-1 regular season a couple of years ago, they averaged 51K (at least that's what they reported). I don't believe they sold out a single game that year.

only 2 sections this year but if the entire lower & upper decks are done then 50-52 k is my guess. 80k is unrealistic IMO& our best solution is to have seats that generate the most revenue based on demand along with adding more VIP type offerings

There is not enough parking to get 80,000 into a stadium in Chapel Hill.

There are only 7,000 parking places available on campus (mostly in decks).

Final capacity when all of the seating is converted will be a shade over 50,000.

In reality there aren't many schools that consistently sell 80k tickets, in 2016 there were only 26 schools that averaged over 60k.

Are they doing something about the space between rows? It's been ridiculously tight. It has made it hard to get to and from seats that aren't on the end of a row.

club seats & suites are in the west end zone but if the capacity is reduced to 50,000 then some more premium seating could be put in the south end of the stadium with a new press box. The School of Medicine, Campus Rec & Exercise& Sports Science have need for additional space on campus so you could see something like ND did with their stadium
