I honestly believe this too... That's why I keep saying this won't be 'over' until all the 'Power Programs' in the G5 have access to the playoff. This list is obvious: Boise, AFA, Houston, Navy, UConn, UCF, USF, Cincinnati... and others.
Trying to artificially relegate these programs down with some FCS callups and calling it 'G5' is just ridiculous... but that's politics and $$$...
Won't even bother to comment on the obvious 'G5' level schools that lucked into being grandfathered into the P5...
You do realize that Boise, UConn and UCF were all FCS call-ups at one time correct?
I do... I am commenting on how things are today. I would agree that a path for growth or advancement needs to be in place for any school.
that path is there
get in a better conference, get a better media agreement, get better bowl payouts
just because some conferences have managed to do that and you feel that some of the members (that have often been in that conference for decades) are not deserving of that does not impact that fact that some other program or programs cannot try and do the same
media companies do not owe teams or conferences contracts and bowl payouts just because the fans of that program or conference think they do
and if any conference is not happy with making money from the fact that other conferences agreed to join together the bowl games THEY HAD BUILT OVER DECADES AND DECADES to try and get better final match ups then those teams and conferences are free to not participate in that agreement and they are free to have their teams play in whatever end of year games they can put together with what ever other conferences or teams they can get with them and they are free to keep the money from that effort

IMHO the name argument is driven primarily by the internet. Given we are talking about tens of millions of dollars in additional revenue each, if a school like UCF or USF would be invited to the P5 simply by re-naming their university they would have done it years ago.

Not to mention renaming yourself "University of Tampa" would not bring anymore prestige to your school than leaving it at "University of South Florida"... I would counter that if anything it would make it sound less big-time in terms of perception, as it would be changed from a state university to a city university. If anything, to get more respect it would probably work more if they could work with UF and rename themselves University of Florida at Tampa and University of Florida at Orlando. Still won't help them get into a P4.

It would be like the UC system - UC-Berkley, UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, UC-Davis, etc.
And the University of Florida at Orlando would have excellent branding as "UFO!"

Yes, but just like the UC system, having a more respected name isn't getting you into a power conference anytime soon, hence UCSB, UCSD, USD, UCI, UCR, UCM, UCSF

Believe it or not... I don't disagree with much you said... and that's EXACTLY what the AAC is trying to do. Beating P5 champions in NY bowls, upgrading facilities. I would much rather the AAC (or some best of the rest whatever...) be elevated somewhat (bowls, $$$) than select few schools get a 'golden invite'. No one owes us an invite to anything.
But conversely, the 'haves' are most definitely trying to rig the game somewhat to keep the have nots down... The mighty P5 get most annoyed when the lose to lowly G5 teams...

They would get a new mascot, name Roswell, of course.
They should be the Saucers. I'd probably open a concession called the swamp gas

The problem is that ESPN would have to cut all the fat that they can get. That could mean that the ACC Network is DEAD. Will never get off the ground since ESPN needs to stop spending money. When that happens? The juicy schools from the ACC would be picked up by the Big 10 and SEC. Virginia Tech could be in the SEC with NC State. Duke and Wake Forest are teams that nobody wants because they are more basketball first, and are way late to the football party.
Lol. Where do you guys come up with some of this stuff?
ESPN has the majority of SEC TV rights, and all of the ACC's. It will keep those 2 contracts above all else. Why? With those two leagues you have: The largest market footprint in college sports (ACC), the most watched market for college football (SEC), the top leagues for football, basketball, and baseball. The ACC is going to 20-game basketball schedule in 2019 specifically to put content on the ACC TV Network. If ESPN is going to cut back on expenses, it will start with the unstable B12 TV rights up in 2023, that it overpaid for in 2011.
22 teams is a ridiculous number. Pods or some other CCG changes would have to take place before the B1G would ever expand beyond 16, and their contract is up in 2025 so that decision would have to happen in the next 5 years or so. I don't see the other conferences going for that just to accommodate the B1G. And so what if the B1G wants 22 teams? The ACC's GOR runs through 2036, so no one is leaving before then. It takes 11 votes to "trim the fat". No 11 members are going to change what has turned out to be a very stable conference, for a chance at bloated behemoth that is almost certainly going to eventually break apart.
There's only really 2 expansion crown jewels in the ACC anyway -- FSU and Clemson. UVA and UNC would be an attractive pair, especially since they're states with large populations. But UVA, UNC, and Duke will never leave each other. VT waited 50 years to get into the ACC. We'd never vote to dissolve, even more so because UVA's voting role getting us in in the first place.
The ACC is fine.
The plan was for Big 10 to grab these schools.
15.Florida State
16.Clemson
17.North Carolina
18.Virginia
19.Notre Dame
20.Kansas
21.Oklahoma
22.Texas
West:
Nebraska
Iowa
Oklahoma
Kansas
Texas
Central:
Minnesota
Illinois
Northwestern
Wisconsin
Indiana
Purdue
Northeast:
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Rutgers
Penn. State
Michigan
Michigan State
Southeast:
Virginia
North Carolina
Clemson
Florida State
Maryland
This would open up SEC to grab who they wanted.
15.Virginia Tech
16.NC State
17.West Virginia
18.Cincinnati
Big 12 need to grab schools.
7.Louisville
8.Memphis
9.Pittsburgh
10.Miami. Florida
11.UCF
12.East Carolina
13.Houston
14.Colorado State
15.BYU
16.Boise State
17.Air Force
18.New Mexico
ACC would be down to:
Duke
Wake Forest
Syracuse
Boston College
The ACC are the most sought after schools that the other conferences want. Big 10 wants to be king of the TV networks. They want to reach into these states.

There are exactly two slots left and those depend on the BigXII actually wanting to be the BigXII.

Duke is a much better school than the other three. Why would people make stupid posts like this? Duke is a jewel that ALL conferences want desperately! Even Duke football is not that bad in the past few years.

I agree. I think those four expanding decimates the Big 12, but the few members left pick up the pieces to get to 12 again, putting the P5 at 72 for a gain of seven.
