Exclamation 82 Days to Kickoff... a couple of players at #82
For the second consecutive day, we have two guys starting out with the same jersey number. They are...

Zach Polglase is a R-Fr. TE from nearby Spotswood HS. He was a starting QB in HS and now listed at 6'3" 225#, he adds to the depth JMU enjoys at the TE position. His bio advises us he is a JMU legacy with both parents being Dukes alums - and, his dad is Deputy AD. Good luck to Zach this season!!

And...

Joe Hunt is a true frosh, who was listed on signing day and remains on our official roster as a toss up between TE and LB. He's from Richmond and an alum of Cosby HS. His family is a mix of diverse athletic endeavors as we see from his bio. Mom was a gymnast at Florida State. Dad played FB at Chattanooga. Brother is a NASCAR driver. Good luck to Joe at whatever position he eventually lands.

1982

The 1982 Dukes won at Virginia, 21-17. That was former UVA head coach George Welsh's (aka Nose Picker) first season in Charlottesville. UVA finished 2-9 that season.

The Dukes on the other hand had a pretty good season going 8-3, especially considering the previous season saw JMU go 3-8.

How many of you older fartekers were at Scott Stadium for that big win in program history?

Present, and I will say for me, that victory was every bit as enjoyable as the Tech win. Furthermore, it meant as much to our program as did beating the Hokies.

I was in Blacksburg watching Jim Kelly and the U play Bruce Smith and the Hokies. A 14-7 U win. The stadium erupted when they announced the final sxcore. I did not miss the following year when JMU lost 21-14 late.

You actually got to see the game JMU ran it down the throat of the Hoos, yet managed to lose. It was the opposite for our win the prior year in Hooville, we were dominated but managed to come away with the win.

I was there. Believe it or not, there were only 23k for the 1982 game. Ironically, I felt that UVA dominated the game physically and statistically, yet we won. The exact opposite happened in 1983, three fumbles inside the 20 will do that. Shame that we haven't played in 34 years

I thought it was four turnovers inside the twenty? One I remember quite well. The fullback(I think his name was Larry Bland) was going in for the score and the UVA defensive player shoved the JMU o lineman into Larry as he was crossing the goal line. I think Larry may have lost his focus and wasn't expecting the contact. The ball popped out and UVA recovered in the end zone.

JMU led 14-0 at halftime as Gary Clark had returned two punts for touchdowns. JMU should have led 35-0. UVA came back and won 21-14 as they knocked out our starting QB and maybe his back up along with a couple of our RBs.

JMU went 3-8 that year after beating preseason #1 in FCS App. St. to start the year and almost beating UVA in the second game. It was a season where JMU lost 16 starters to season ending injury. What should have been a great year turned into disaster as JMU did not have the depth to overcome so many injuries.
