He never said they existed, did he? Comey allowed the public to believe Trump was under investigation. That was finally cleared up last week, which would have been the purpose of the "tapes", so whether there are "tapes" or not is irrelevant.

Perhaps Trump knows that when dealing with self serving snakes, use caution and don't telegraph your moves, so no leakers. Caught Comey unaware he was to be fired and did so while he was in California, thousands of miles from his office. Was fired and all his correspondence and computers were taken by the DOJ. Then, Trump lets slip the comment about Comey and tapes that has the left in such a tizzy.

Then, Comey outs himself as one of the leakers.
