I think UCF has accomplish the same thing with getting away from Central Florida.
We unique where there is no state of Carolina. There is a north and south but no true carolina. It's not like we are East North Carolina Univeristy OR for example being in Tennessee and being called East Tennessee. We should just become Carolina Univeristy of the East similar to Swanee University of the South. We would be the University of the East, but for Athletics known as Carolina Pirates.
Hard to stop a school called Carolina with a large enrollment and great football support out of the SEC if they decide to expand. However if we brand ourselves as ECU we will never be anything more then a G5, we will just be another directional school hiding behind an acronym, like MTSU, UAB, WKU, UNT, UTSA, UTEP, FIU, FAU, USA, USM, etc.
Acronym schools are not the norm in P5 way more in the G5 then P5. Let's see how many P5 schools use an acronym for main branding.
1) USC
2) UCLA
3) TCU
4) LSU
A total of four where two are in a huge state and happen to be located in Los Angeles and have been power players since the beginning. The third is a recent move up to P5 that is a smaller private school happened to be located in another huge state of Texas and located in Dallas-Ft Worth Market. Also happens to be purple and _CU (seems like they beat us to it). The fourth happens to be Louisiana State University and they just prefer to go by an acronym. They also happen to be a life long member of the best football conference.
The point being if you are going to rebrand the best is to rename instead of using an acronym as an a directional school acronym doesn't make it to the P5.
