Not a factor. Even the most optimistic projection for a move is 5 years out.

Stoops probably just burned out. Urban Meyer did something similar at Florida.

Not for Stoops. It was in regards to the comment about Riley winning 400 games in 40 years.

When Saban feels like he's found a worthy successor, he'll probably retire too.

CRAZY..... I mean.... he always felt like a guy that was going to be fast tracked to something.....

Yes, the significance of Riley's rapid rise is being obscured by the shock of Stoops stepping down. But think about this.

How many coaches get to start their head coaching career at a blue blood like Oklahoma? What's more, how many get to start anywhere at the age of 33. This young man could conceivably coach for 40 or more years and win close to 400 games before he's done.

The guy is something of an offensive savant. It's scary to think what he could accomplish.

Savants have a tendency to burn out or get bored. I predict Riley won't still be there at 43. If he is successful at OK, he will probably move to the NFL like Chip Kelly.

By the way, Bob Stoops first head coaching job was at Oklahoma at the age of 38.

Interesting that Stoops also interviewed for the Iowa job in 98, but Iowa was too slow to make an offer and Stoops grabbed the Oklahoma job that was offered to him first. Iowa then went with their backup choice of Kirk Ferentz.

It worked out well either way. Stoops would not have won to the level he did at OU at Iowa.

The biggest knock on Stoops is that he only won one title. He definitely should have won 2-3 more.

He probably should have won more than one. But then again, he likely doesn't even win in 2000 if he plays Miami instead of Florida State.

Yeah, well, if there was a playoff over the years, maybe a lot of things change. If Team A does one thing differently, Team B benefits. It's a crapshoot, they maybe shouldn't have won it in 2000 but there are other years where they were the best team for much of the year, like in 2003 and '04.

Thats easy for you to say. Many Iowa fans have never forgiven Iowa AD Bob Bowlsby for letting Bob Stoops get away. Stoops is an Iowa alumni. He was waiting for Hayden Fry to retire so he could apply for the Iowa job, only to feel like he was given the cold shoulder when je actually interviewed for the Iowa job.

Although Ferentz far exceeded expections I believe the consensus among Iowa fans is that Stoops would have done better at Iowa.
