Trump doing infrastructure speech soon
CINCINNATI (FOX19 NOW/AP) -
President Donald Trump, who built an empire of hotels, casinos and golf courses wants to rebuild America's crumbling infrastructure.

On Wednesday, he will visit Cincinnati as part of the administration’s week-long push for an overhaul of the nation’s roads, bridges and waterways — a key item in his domestic agenda.

FOX19 NOW will carry the President's speech live on air and all of our digital platforms. MOBILE USERS can watch live here here

Trump is scheduled to speak at the Rivertowne Marina at 1.p.m. The event is not open to the public. Trump is expected to address the country's aging and outdated waterways.

IMHO, he should have started his term with this. It's an issue both parties can usually come to an agreement on and it would be...if done right...a boon to the economy.

Because he started off with nonsense like a Muslim ban disguised as something else.

Infrastructure and stimulus are huge issues for the left...it would have been very difficult for the left to resist this.

I would, except if he decides to divert federal monies to his personal buddies and donors for the bulk of the projects.

Whenever I hear Trump talk about crumbling infrastructure, the first thing that comes to mind is the Brent Spence Bridge from Cincy over the Ohio River. That thing is a disaster waiting to happen.

RE: Trump doing infrastructure speech soon
The infrastructure across the country in general needs a major boost. A large number of major bridges are in dire need of upgrading. I know other than the single flyover completed a year ago, the Memphis area still has the 1960's outer loop. Another one at I-55 and Riverside Drive downtown is slated to be done around 2018-19, I think.

Fixing the US infrastructure will not be cheap or be done in a few years. It would be a commitment of serious $$$ and about 10-15 years.

What happened?

A few things.

They failed to put the proper restrictions on what the money was to be used for, so many states used it to cover things they were way behind on like Medicaid, so the money didn't go to the jobs.

Biden, who I think he put in charge of this, failed in his duties.

But most importantly, many things were done. The problem was that the money was nowhere near enough to really make a dent in the giant issues we face. Until congress realizes it's just as important to build things up at home instead of sinking money into foreign wars and other defense largesse, little is going to change.

From my experience in the infrastructure industry, unfortunately, a lot of the actual construction money was not well spent. That is what happens every time there is "free" money. Goofy, special interest projects get funded instead of plowing all the funds into what are truly the greatest needs. And, given the whole "shovel-ready" mantra, a lot of crappy projects were whipped together just to get money spent.

It is a true shame because the money was wasted.

Money would be much better spent if the Feds dramatically lessened their involvement for infrastructure funding. The states should fund this themselves and likewise, be more accountable.
