Great hire.

Keeps continuity in local recruiting with someone who has been a HC, has gone to multiple NCAAs and knows the area.

XU looked really good in the regionals over the weekend. Ran Oklahoma off the field and then came really close to beating UL in their own regional.

This hire tells me Mike Bohn was able to sell the fact that we want the baseball program to be a winner and we will give the new coach the tools to succeed.

Still piecing that together myself. I saw on twitter where a media member said that despite their on-the-field success, XU's athletic department has not been very supportive of baseball.

I think it is very clear that UC wants to field a competitive baseball program and will spend some money to do so.

Hayden Field is a dog track of a HS venue. From a facilities perspective it's not even close.

Locally and regionally it's a statement hire in my mind. With this move, UC takes a proven coach with postseason experience and sends a message we're still the alpha dog University Athletic Department in this city and in southwest Ohio.

I agree that Bohn is serious about baseball. After attending the UC vs. UCF game this spring I've decided to get season tickets next year. I can't make it to every game but with our facilities and a new coach I'd like to be kicked back in Marge Schott Stadium on more sunny spring days with a refreshing adult beverage. Go 'Cats!

Even though they pull in more from their media deal, we invest far more in our athletics.

This is a VERY good hire. He has had six 30+ win seasons since 2008 and made the NCAAs four times in LITERALLY the same city as us, with worse facilities. I think he could do very well with the added funding and facility support at UC...and that's probably why he is making the move.

With the reported doubling of salary, huge facilities upgrade and the fact that the AAC is a much better baseball conference than the Big East, it's a no brainer for both sides.

Sure, they haven't played a game yet, but Bohn's hires sure seem rock f*cking solid.

He must have felt the pull of Marge Schott's presence.

The Big East had some very good baseball programs in it, but it was never much of a college baseball conference. It was always too far north and in a region dominated by MLB teams...and even minor league farm clubs.

The AAC seems to be a much more robust college baseball conference. From the mostly southern programs, to some historically college baseball power-houses (Wichita State, Houston, ECU, Tulane), it's a much hotter baseball conference than the BE.

I can see why a baseball coach would want to step-up from a BE program to a much more competitive conference like the AAC. And, let's also realize that Coach Neal is leaving this program in an upward trajectory...so the table is fairly well set.

Ditto! Honestly I lost a lot of respect for him how he handled the crosstown shootout brawl. Plus he wouldn't be able to sweep all the trouble under the carpet like he can with XU's campus police.
