RE: Jake Elliott's Replacement
According to Coach Norvell during the signing party and Beale Street Landing, the freshman they have coming in is one of the top 10 in the country. Coach was thrilled when talking about this kid and he indicated that this was the kicker they really wanted.

It appears that Memphis has a summer camp for high school kickers and a lot of the really good HS kickers attend. Coach is amazed of the talent they get at these camps coming to U of M and was not sure why the camp is so popular, well he did indicate it is a known fact that Stephen Gostkowski does show up and work with the kids, not sure if that matters or not.

Another coach commented (i believe the special teams coach) that this was one of the kickers that really shinned during the summer camp. Hope he is as good as the last two!

Not good for a kicker.

If this is true, it's a huge advantage for Memphis. If Elliott succeeds in the NFL and contributes similarly, it will keep this tradition going for a LOOOONG time.

RE: Jake Elliott's Replacement
I think it is a real positive that the Tigers sign kickers, punters, and long snappers to scholarships as Freshman .... Not sure that many P5 schools believe in that or want to waste a scholarship offer .... We place a value on special teams, that has to translate to a win or two each year ....

Bama gave a kicker a scholly and that created some talk on sports radio. Some comments revolved around "he must be great if we gave him a scholly".

Agree. Never understood why Saban was so against it. Guess he's just hoarding as much talent at skilled positions as possible to prevent playing against them.
